Do I need a iPhone case?

Do I need a iPhone case?

I have a iPod touch, and have had it for over 2 years. I don't believe that I have dropped it, although I do have a case and a screen protector. My screen protector has a few scratches on it, but I think I let it drop under the seat of the car, and it sort of got smashed.

I know I will be even more careful with my iPhone 3GS and I want to show it off. Do you think it is ok to not use a case or protector?

Does anyone have experience with a "naked" iPhone 3G?

I don't use a case for my 3G, I just carry it in a belt "holster." I do use a screen protector (mostly for fingerprints). I've only dropped it once with no damage. I will probably buy a case for the 3G when I give it to my daughter (after I pick up a 3GS for myself) because she's pretty tough on phones.

I honestly really recommend getting a case. I bought the ifrogz hard shell case as soon as I got my iPhone 3G less than a month ago & i love it! It has a rubbery grip to it and fits very perfectly over my phone without it being too bulky. Also all the input/output slots have planty of room for a headphone jack & attaching the computer cable. The bottom slides off if you need to dock it with your iPod/iPhone equipped dosck station or stereo or whatever. I love this case!

If you someone who is very careful, never drop it, don't put it in a pocket with keys, keep it out of the rain and water splashes, etc, you don't need a case. I'm not.

I recommend a case that has covers for the dock port and headset jack to help prevent water getting to the liquid sensors at located there. SwitchEasy, iSkin and Otterbox make models that provide this. For good reviews of a whole lot of cases, see:

That's good you look after your things like me. I have had over 60 phones and i have never scratched one of them. All of them have looked new. I only use an iphone case for my 3G because law of the SOD i will scratch my iphone. I only really use a case at work in a warehouse but at weekends i tend not to use one. It's your choice but you dont have to have one.

I know you asked about the 3G but I believe this is applicable.

I bought my iPhone on June 29 and on June 30, I was sitting in the dentist's chair and they asked to see my phone. Sure enough as I was pulling it out of my shirt pocket I dropped it. Dented the side. Bought an Incase case that did not protect the upper corners and have since dropped the phone multiple times. Sure enough it fell right on the exposed corners.

I like to believe, the scratches give it character!?!? I'm debating whether to get a case for my new phone. It's gonna get scratched and I can't really find a case that protects all sides and one that I like...
