canon mp480 not printing via bluetooth in leopard

i got a canon mp480 with my imac a couple months ago. saw that i could use it vis bluetooth, so added a dongle, and set it up in leopard. the operating systems sees the printer and added it, but when i tried to print somthing, i got this:

Error Number : 311 Printer is in use or an error has occurred. If an error has occurred, eliminate the cause of the error.

the printer works fine via usb, and my fiance managed to print via bluetooth in XP without any kind of problems. its annoying to have to sit this thing on my desk to use. is there something i'm missing or tips to get this working correct.

24" imac, Mac OS X (10.5.7)

Sounds like you are using the Canon v10.6 CUPS driver, which does not support Bluetooth printing and will give you the 311 error.

So you need to install the other Canon MP480 driver, version 7.7.0. After you have installed it, you can create another Bluetooth print queue, but this time ensure you select 'Canon IJ Printer' in the Print Using menu.

I have the exact same problem. I downloaded the drivers you suggested, but don't have the option to select the "lj" Canon. It recognizes the printer as a mp480 Canon series xxx. When I attempt to print to it via Bluetooh it says "connection succesful" followed by "printing." The LCD on the printer will light up but after a few minutes of nothing else happening I get the 311 error message.

This is exactly the symptom of using the CUPS driver.

If you have installed the v7 driver, as opposed to just downloading it and not running the installer, then you should Canon IJ Printer in the Print Using menu after selecting the MP480 while in the Bluetooth - Add Printer view.

If you only see Canon MP480 Series, then v7 has not installed correctly. I suggest you restart your Mac and try adding the printer queue again. Until you can get Canon IJ Printer in the Print Using menu after selecting the MP480, you won't be able to print via Bluetooth.
