Middle Button Not Working

I have a fifth gen Ipod 30gb video, all of a sudden the middle button only has stopped working. My Ipod is out of warranty and I have tried the 5 R's. What could be the problem? If i need a new part what would it be?

The battery is fine and holds charge, the Ipod syncs, I can reset it. I tried draining the battery and charging it again. The middle button wil not select any menu's on the ipod. However, it does reset and you need the middle button to do that so I am unsure whats going on. Please Help

Hey there,
Well, as you stated, it definitely sounds like a hardware issue. Now, as to what exactly has gone bad, is the hard part. It could be a the Center button itself, its connection to the logic board, or part of the logic board itself.

I would recommend sending it in to a business that offers diagnostics tests to see if they can pinpoint the problem. From there, you could purchase a replacement part (maybe from the same business) and have the faulty part replaced. There are several sites out there that offer replacement parts as well as diagnostics. Just do a simple google search for "ipod replacement parts" and you should receive a plethora of sites that can assist you.

Here are a few. Hope this helps.

Maybe try and see if you can get the iPod into Diagnostics mode and perform a few different scans of your iPods hardware and such. I provided a link to instructions on how to do this, as well as descriptions of the different tests and scans and what they mean and do.

If you wanted to, you could attempt to completely reformat your iPod. Instructions on how to do this can be found [here|http://www.methodshop.com/gadgets/ipodsupport/erase/index.shtml].

Hope this helps.
