Alesis MasterControl problem

I have the following problem with the Alesis Master Control (MasterControl) and Logic Pro. The unit works fine until I start up Logic Pro with the Yamaha Motif ES7 connected to the USB ports on my Macbook Pro.
Logic starts with the error "Device "Mackie Control" is assigned to MIDI port "Control Port" which is not present. When I disconnect the Yamaha USB Logic recognizes the Firewire MasterControl.

I tested the same setup with CuBase LE4 which comes free with the Alesis - this works 100% and no master control / yamaha conflicts. I'm assuming now it's a logic problem as CuBase works. 😟

Running Logic Pro 8.0.2 (1502.22) on Macbook Pro 2.8Ghz and OS X 10.5.7

any ideas?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.7)

I'm not sure it's a problem so much as a warning!

Do you have a "Mackie Control"?
Did you used to have one which you no longer use?
If the latter, perhaps it was never uninstalled properly, or perhaps Logic has been told to expect it.
Perhaps you are loading an Environment in Logic with the Mackie Control set up in it (in which case, choosing a different Template to launch Logic might fix it).

It will depend on the answers to the above, but you need to check which drivers you have, & it would be very helpful if you could look in +Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup+ & report what you see in there.

Then we can move forward from there…

Hi,

This is my first control surface. Followed the setup exactly as the manual said.
Checked the Audio / Midi devices a few times.. would probably be best to email you a screenshot?
Basically i 've got the followin:
A - ESI-M4U connecting to JV2080, Alesis QS8 and Roland JP8000
B - Yamaha Motif ES (not connected to anything, just here as the icon)
C - Alesis Master Control
(as well as the IQC Driver and Network icons/ devices)

I have deleted the Mackie control's before, restarted everything and still not fixed it. going to keep playing around and see what happens.
let me know if you can think of anything else

One screenshot wouldn't be enough, & text would be better (& easier for you) anyway.
What I want to know is not just how your MIDI devices are connected, but also what interface (etc.) you are using.
And remember, there are tens of thousands of devices in the World, so a brief description of each of yours would help. One or two words will do (e.g. "MIDI Keyboard"). Otherwise how are we supposed to know what a "Nebulax SG-540L" is?

😉

P.S.: is it a Teas-made? (Just joking…)

Spectacular, Eriksimon. Super-efficient as always. Many thanks! (Although you've broken my window in Safari 4… but I shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth.)

So what it comes down to is: presumably +"C - Alesis Master Control: Audio Interface/Control Surface"+ is acting as the interface to the Mac.
But I still need to know from him if that is what he sees in +Audio MIDI Setup.+

Then we can look at installed drivers, possible updates from Alesis' website, etc., etc.

(Or — by all means take over, since I'm sure you can do a better job than I.)
