I have an older Sony, tape based, digital camcorder. Model DCR-HC32. I have many tapes and want to import the movies onto my MacBook. I have a cable that connects into the USB on the computer, but the camera is not recognized by the computer. Any ideas?
Thanks, but I had previously imported videos from this camcorder to a Sony laptop using the USB cable. I am assuming I need some type of driver for the Mac to recognize the camcorder?
You need a computer with a firewire port to use this camera with iMovie. Note: Sony may call this i.Link on your camera.
If you have a memory stick, you can transfer still photos to your Mac via the USB.
Sony has some proprietary software called ImageMixer which came on a CD with your camera. You can try installing this on your Mac and see if it allows USB streaming.
Wow - that is very helpful - thank you very much. I will look for the CD and see if that does the trick! If not, I may just get the tapes transferred to a DVD and buy a new digital video camera.
