Try this:

Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions

Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger and Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.

If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger, and 4.1 for Leopard) and/or TechTool Pro (4.6.1 for Leopard) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.

This kext is third-party, correct? That means installed by non-Apple software and not part of OS X. If so then there may truly be a compatibility problem between the software's installer and the version of OS X you are using. In this case report the problem to the developer.

Meanwhile check the permissions on this kext. They may differ from what they should be.

The culprit may be iTunes 9.0. Have successfully (but for the PCI Express Card on my MacBook Pro) upgraded to Snow Leopard on two systems over the weekend. Only got the Spin Doctor .kext problem after installing the latest version of iTunes, released yesterday (Wednesday, UK). Roxio should move quickly with a fix for this. Don't really fancy going through the time-consuming process of re-installing SL on both systems again!

I'm seeing the same problem with the same product versions. Attempts to install Audio Capture Support fail with the error message discussed in this forum. The message also comes up when installing other software and update (not Toast related) but doesn't seem to stop those installations from completing successfully. Guess we're waiting for a Toast update.

Error message still comes up every now and then...

Waiting for further updates or solutions.

According to Roxio this .kext has broken with Snow Leopard. It will no longer work. Roxio is working on an update for Toast 10 , at least, to fix Snow Leopard issues. CDSDAudioCaptureSupport.kext is part of CD Spin Doctor and allows CD Spin Doctor to capture system audio for processing.

A Roxio drone says to expect an update next week at the earliest. In the meantime I just deleted the kernel extension and the problem went away. It is not part of OS X 10.6 but is a third party kernel extension.

I too am suffering from this error message. Can this problem be affecting how my CD Spin Doctor works? I have been having a problem with it since February, where I can capture audio from an LP and it sounds great until I save it. After it is saved, there is a low level of distortion or noise that gets introduced into the recording. I can't tell you how many times I have removed and reinstalled Toast 10 and CDSD. I even went so far as doing a clean install of Snow Leopard; all to no avail.

You mentioned deleting the kernal extension. Would that be helpful in my case? If so, how do you do that?

All help is appreciated. I have spent 20-30 hours on trying to fix this problem, as I have quite a large library of albums ripped via CDSD. Thanks.

You can't fix this. This file is the CDSpinDocotor kernel extension that enables capture of system audio into CDSpinDoctor. The only thing you can do is remove it until Roxio releases an update. But if you do remove it every time you launch CDSPinDoctor it will ask you if you want to install it and you will have to cancel that. Roxio has officially stated that CDSpinDocotor is not compatible with Snow Leopard. There are several other issues with CDSD and Snow Leopard also.

I will refer you to Roxio's user forums for more information. They say an update is due real soon now. But they said that two weeks ago also.

http://forums.support.roxio.com/

This file is found in the location /System/Library/Extensions where /System/ is the System folder located at the top level of your hard drive. You will be asked to enter an administrator name and/or password in order to delete the file.

Thanks for the update. I wish Roxio would have told me this right out of the gate, rather than having me remove and reinstall the application many times over; not to mention repairing permissions and a host of other steps.

My distortion issue, however, appeared months before I updated to Snow Leopard. I guess I will wait until Roxio issues an update to the application. I have looked at a lot of user forums on Roxio in general, and there seems to be a fairly high level of frustration and dissatisfaction.

Thanks again.
