iphone 3g vs 3GS dock/usb connector

Hi all

I am purchasing an iphone 3gs when they come out and I wanted to get some accessories ahead of time such as a car charger, mains charger etc but wanted to ask if the connectors or method of charging is going to be the same. All of the accessories say fine for 3g but obviously not the 3gs yet. I assume they will be the same but is this definite?

Thanks

I'd disagree with he "for sure" many 3rd party accessories that worked on 2G did not work well or at all with 3G...one example is the BOSE sound Dock...Series I was made for 2G and then 3G came out and before BOSE released the Series II there were compatibility issues...unless 3G iPhone was in Airplane mode on the Series I then you heard a lot of loud popping and interference...with Series II all is fine...
Many 3rd party items made in fact not work as expected or at all with 3Gs...
The bottom line is that it all depends on if Apple changes the 30 PIN connector configuration on 3Gs...they DID going to 3G from 2G...and given the fact that they have opened up access to the 30 PIN connector in their SDK for developers to support and build Apps that talk to another 3rd party device via the USB cable...I would not be at all surprised if the 30 PIN config has changed again...

No, they did not say that. Beginning with the iPhone3G, the 4th generation Nano, etc., Apple, as they had told accessory makers they would do for 2 years, took out Firewire charging circuitry from the devices and changed the pin configuration.

So any accessory that is designed to work with, and charge, the iPhone 3G will work with the 3GS.
