Problem Reading VOB files

Hello,

I copied a DVD file, VOB format (PAL), that I tired to read with the DVD player and VLC player. The DVD player says the file is not taken in charge. And VLC player only reads the sound and not the vidéo.

It is not DVD extract problem because I extracted the DVD on a on other mac (MacBook with system 10.5.) and managed to read the movie with the DVD player and VLC on the other computer but not on my new MacBookPro with the same system.

Since I reinstalled VLC and it still doesn't work I don't understand...the problem might come form the system or...

Do someone has an idea ?

In Leopard VLC can play the video from the full TS Folder.

Don't point it at an individual VOB file.

Yes I know. I open the VIDEO_TS file and make it read the hole thing and not pointing an individual VOB file.

An other interesting detail is that I managed to see the movie through a program named MPEG Streamclip who can make transcoding in different formats. When I look at the preview I see the movie with the sound.

So I can't understand why there is a problem specifically with my DVD player and my VLC who has nothing to do with it.

Like I said, this works in Leopard. It doesn't in Tiger which you are running.

But it sounds like that DVD is not in the standard format of mpeg2. As mpeg Streamclip can play it, try to use that to convert it to mpeg2.

I don't think the DVD is the problem since I read it on an other Mac (Leopard 10.5.7) after having extracted the content.

By the way I'm running on Leopard. 10.5.7. I just forgot to change the information on my OS...

I have knew information to the case.

The VLC program that couldn't read the DVD was the 0.9.8 version.

I tried reading the VOB file with an other version, the 0.8.6b and it works ! So the late 0.9.8 has a problem for who is interested.

This does not solve my DVD player problem. I tried to modify settings and it doesn't change. I guess the problem might be in the installation of this program who is installed with Mac OS 10.5.

Should I reinstall my system to see if their is any change ?

Do NOT reinstall the entire system - that is such a windows-thing to do! 😉

The current version of VLC is 1.0.0.-rc3 for a PPC Mac and 0.9.9.a for an Intel mac.

The problem is probably with that DVD.

Here are the facts:

The DVD files are read on a MacBook with the OS 10.5.7 and DVD player 5.0.7

The exact same file is NOT read with my MacBook Pro OS 10.5.7 DVD player 5.1 and not on VLC 0.9.8 but on VLC 8.9.6b. and VLC 0.9.9 last version as you told me (I didn't know - juste download it).

I extracted a complete other DVD and I have the same problem. It can be read on VLC but NOT on DVD player.

So the problem is NOT the DVD but the DVD player. I assume that the only thing to do here, since I can not re-instal only the DVD player is to re-instal the hole mac OS 10.5 even if it is a windows thing to do 😉 or...if someone has an other idea.

Well, as long as you can play it back with VLC, what's the problem? 🙂

(I never use DVD Player.)

Yeah I know. I prefer the menus of the DVD player. But its is weird.
