Does FC Ex use "old" format for editing clips?

Question

Does FC Ex use "old" format for editing clips?

I really dislike the "windowed" clips after importing in IMovie 08. I was told FC Express uses the "continuous" line of imported clip.
Is this so?

I'm not quite sure what you mean, but what version of FCE are you using and what format video are you working with? Do you mean, does FCE capture continuously across shot changes from tape? That depends on the format you're working in. Yes for DV, no for HD.

I don't have FC Ex yet. I presently import DV from tape. Sony Camcorder connected by firewire.
Yes. Does it import into a continuous time line instead of dozens of "clip windows"?

DV gets captured as a continuous file if you wish. To break it up into separate shots

I'm also not quite sure what you mean, but there is a timeline unlike in the new iMovie, more like the old iMovie HD.

FCE shows a timeline.
iM08 shows thumbnails of variable size/'length'; it allows 'skimming' for preview.

you can tell both apps the length of each 'clip' on import - if you want a new clip for each timecode-break or a solid clip from hitting 'Import button' to end..
