Keep getting kicked offline - Constantly having to power cycle modem/router

We just moved into a new apartment and set up our wireless internet. We both have 2008 MacBooks. Every time I come home from work, I cannot get online until I power cycle both the modem and the wireless router. Recently, I'm getting kicked offline every time I let my computer sit for 10 minutes.

My girlfriend, however, has no issues whatsoever. She can come and go and always get online.

It's obviously my machine. Any suggestion?

Want to tell us about your internet setup? Cable? DSL? Router? BTW, having a 2008 MacBook tells me little about your model other than when you bought it. More than one 2008 MacBook models out there. Have you setup the router to B/G? have you tried changing the channel? What is your proximity to the router? Girlfriends never have these kinds of issues. 🙂

I'm having a similar problem. We had a short power outage recently and I had to reboot the Netgear DSL. My MacPro is fine (ethernet). My iPhone had difficulty with wifi and my MacBook (unibody). I got the iPhone synched fine. I have re-entered the network data several times. When the MacBook goes to sleep and is "woken up", there is no network connection and I have to use the assistant again. It does not seem to be saving my network data.

Apologies for being vague.

Time Warner cable internet
Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router(WRT54G2)
13" Black MackBook - Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.2 GHz

I've logged into the router for the initial setup (which made feel smart), though, I have no idea what B/G is or how to set it up, and no idea what channel I'm on or how to switch it (which makes me feel dumb).

I'm very close to the router (both physically and emotionally). Full signal on airport indicator.

Advice is greatly appreciated. Slowly losing credibility in the eyes of the girlfriend. Routers = sexy.

If you can log into the router you're half way there. At the main page select Wireless. Then select Basic Settings. You see a drop down box that says Wireless Network Mode. Select B/G or G. Below that there is a drop down box that says Wireless Channel. Default is 6. Try Channel 9. Then click on Save Settings.

Has sig states if you can access the router that is good.
1. Have you tried power cycling the router and if that does not cure it try the modem. It may suggest which one of the devices is faulty, or not working correctly.
2. Did the setup work in your last home OK?
3. You could try a wired ethernet connection instead of wireless.
4. Are there any lights on the modem to suggest that he connection to your ISP is faulty?
5. It may be worth calling the cable company to if they can test the line/modem to your home.

hope that helps
