Unable to add Cannon MP 480 Printer

I am unable to my Canon MP480 series printer. I have all the correct drivers downloaded and the computer seems to recogonize the printer it will just not let me add it. I have talked with both apple and canon and they are both claiming the other is at fault.

Mac OS X (10.4.11)

The following details my procedure for repairing faulty installations of the Canon PIXMA drivers.

1. Open System Preferences > Print & Fax. Move your mouse over the Printer list, hold down the Control key and click. Then click on Reset Printing System.
2. Close Print & Fax
3. Go to Library > Printers > Canon and delete the contents of the BJPrinter folder.
4. Go to Library > Receipts and delete the Canon driver package file. The file name will show Canon MP480 xxx.pkg
5. Go to Library > Preferences and delete the Canon folder.
6. Empty the Trash
7. Unplug the Canon USB cable and restart the Mac
8. Install version 7.7.0 of the Canon MP480 driver. If you don't have this version you can download if from the Canon web site. Do not use the v10.6.0 CUPS driver.
9. Once the driver installation is complete, go to Applications > Utilities and open Disk Utility. Run the Repair Disk Permissions option.
10. Reconnect the Canon USB cable. Then open Print & Fax and see if the Canon printer is listed. If it is, try a test print.
11. If the printer is not listed, click the plus ( + ) button.
12. Select the Default view and select the Canon printer connected via the USB port. The Print Using menu should automatically change to Canon IJ Printer.
13. Click Add to add the printer.

Let me know how this goes.
