How can I disable the new "Google Suggest" search feature?

Does anyone know how I can disable the new "Google Suggest" search feature? It's driving me crazy!

I do a lot of academic online research and am really finding these "intuitive" features of Safari 4.0 cumbersome and distracting. I'm hating this particular build of Safari - ready to set sail for FireFox as my primary browser.

Help. All suggestions welcome 🙂

Unless Google in 4 is vastly different from Google in 3, here's the easiest way we've found to disable the search suggestions.

Click on preferences beside the search bar on the Google home page.
Scroll down to nearly the bottom of the page where it says Query suggestions.
Disable this by clicking the appropriate button.

And, hurrah!, those annoying search suggestions are gone.

Save your preferences and continue searching.
