The new 3.0 upgrade for iTouch changes how your iTouch handles a mixed signal from your wireless router. Before with 2.2.1 it could connect at full strength when it detected a mix of "G", "B" and "N". Now you need to change the setting on your Router to "G" and "B" only and you will see full bars and faster connection speeds.

Apple needs to post this so people don't was time trying to get their iTounch to connect as it did before the update.

    @khenne
where did you get that information from?
try and error or could you name a source?

it would be helpful to run an accesspoint in native mode...
    I'll test that at home

I've the same problem. Wifi is weak since I updated to OS 3.0. Also I'm experiencing problems to connect to an enterprise WLAN over 802.1x.

    khenne,

I've had exactly the opposite experience as you as far as a mixed network goes. I haven't touched my router after the upgrade and it still is running in a mixed mode. BTW, the touch radio will never even see the N signal so its presence or absence should not be a factor.

I would suggest you update your router firmware as I think that might be where your problems are.

    Hello,
I'm having the same problem. Since "upgrading" to 3.0, suddenly my WiFi loses its connection. Most of the time, I cannot even connect at all.

I'm using my Apple Airport Extreme to send music to my stereo system, and the "Remote" app on my Ipod Touch. It worked great until I installed the 3.0 software. Now I get the message "Can't connect to library."

    This is really frustrating.

When is Apple going to fix this?

Better question: why did they release software that has these kinds of problems?

I don't know what to do. I own an iPod touch 2g and since I bought the 3.0 I can't connect to WiFi as I used to with the old OS - before 3.0 everything was fine and now I have extremly low connectivity on every router I tried. Most of the time I can't connect at all, even if I'm standing right next to the router!
I spent 8 Euros to get my WiFi messed up?! I am really mad at apple for this and I feel left alone with that prob!
I read there would be a hotfix coming up and I just installed the 3.1.1 but obviously the problem still exists!
I understand there is no reason to have it downgraded without jailbreaking it? I don't know what to do now!!! help!

i am never buying another apple device ever again, even if they give them to me free i will not use it. Over priced, poor quality, poor support. Enough with this crap

I hear you. the wifi issue has dragged on for many months now, through TWO iterations of the OS. Unconscionable, on Apple's part. a slap in the face to consumers.

Please repost this as a new problem and we will try and help you. Please include that type of router you are trying to connect to, what type of encryption you are running, and anything else about the network you are trying to connect to.

    David,

I think us more experienced types tried to warn you that an OS update was unlikely to fix WiFi. There are so many variables involved that a single fix is not going to do it. Despite the fact that standards exist for various forms/modes of WiFi transmissions from routers, there are still large variances between hardware manufacturers. Maybe someone will come up with a new, bulletproof wireless service.

BTW, still no problems with WiFi and my 3.0 touch (now 3.1.1) and this includes connecting to networks all over the place.

Warn ME?? I was the one who posted a thread that became very active with comments about 3.0 breaking wifi connectivity. I posted the thread BEFORE I considered purchasing 3.0. I am STILL on 2.2 and have no plans to upgrade to 3.1.1 if the same wifi problems INTRODUCED in 3,.0 are still present in 3.1.1. It's high time Apple fix what they broke. 2.2 works flawlessly with wifi. I presume 2.2.1 also worked ok.
