Spell Check has stopped working

About 2 days ago my spellchecker stopped working in exactly the same way that you describe. Did you ever find a solution?

The best first step in troubleshooting an application that was working & now doesn't is to delete its preference file. For Pages go to HD > Users > (your account) > Library > Preferences, delete the com.apple.iwork.pages.plist then restart Pages.

I found that if I have pasted something from a word document into a pages document, it breaks pages spell check. erasing the .plist fixes it, but it breaks again when I try to paste a certain word .doc that has some weird double underlining format in it. So after I paste the word doc, I type gibberish and it doesn't see it as misspelled. If I unpaste or delete out that .doc I just put in, then I start typing gibberish and it catches it! Maybe it has something to do with pasting from Word then?

Why not try to use the huge script:

set the clipboard to (the clipboard as text )

Copy to clipboard
run the script
Paste.

Doing that you will paste clean datas.

The alternate way is to import the .doc file containing the datas.
When the import process is done, copy from the imported doc then Paste in the Pages document;

The code designed to import is more powerful that the copy-paste one.

I just started having this problem as well.
I tried the file removal suggested, but it did not work.
Anything else to try?

Open the Inspector Text > Other

Look what appear in the field "language" when you move the cursor in the text.
My guess is that in some areas you will see that the selected language is "none".

I saw that in other replies before I posted here.
Sadly, that didn't work either.

The spell checker is not specific to Pages. It's a system component.
Is it behaving 'correctly' in TextEdit ?

Yes it works in textedit, in Mail and while posting things on the web like here. (It got one as I wrote this message.)

It only seems to not work in Pages.

Is it working correctly if you use Pages from an other user account ?

Yes.
When I created a new account and logged into it, Pages did check the spelling as it had in the main account up until a few days ago.

Any advice for getting it turned on in the main account?

Two soluces:

(1) try to find the culprit among the thousands of files of the original account.
(2) transfer your datas from the original account to the new one and when you are sure that everything is transferred, drop the original account.
