So I did a Remote Wipe just for s and g. It's been nearly 5 hours now and my iPhone still won't turn on. All I get is the Apple logo for a few seconds then back to a black screen. Support says it should only take 3 hours. Any ideas?
No kidding on how long it takes. Mine has been down for 4 hours now. You would think they could at least provide a progress bar or a countdown timer or something to at least make it seem like its been turned into an expensive paperweight.
If I saw that it was 56%...57%...58% done then I would know that it's only a matter of time before completed. As of now, I'm not sure if it's stuck in some endless loop at 1%.
after all, the iPhone uses a solid-state hard drive, which is basically a bunch of memory chips.
shouldnt take more than five minutes to wipe if i had to guess
A quick format would serve no purpose from a security standpoint. It is probably performing a low level format to erase all data, and not just directory structures. The idea is to make it so confidential information is completely erased, not just harder for someone to get off a stolen phone.
Tried these exact steps and after 14 hours, I still got no farther ahead then where I was at right after 3.0 upgrade..... I hope Apple finds a fix for this.
I made a few changes after the 3.0 update that I didn't want. I was going to restore from a backup, but I tried the wipe instead....15 hours later I'm ready to check this 3.0 OS out!
The real question is why would you Remote Wipe it if you have it with you? <_<
Obviously there won't be a progress bar, you are trying to erase all data from a stolen phone, why would the guy that stole it/found it need a progress bar to see that it's being erased?

How long does Remote Wipe take to complete?
