Bluetooth Keeps Disconnecting

Ok, I solved it. The problem was that I was just connecting the device to the computer, without using any bluetooth service (like internet sharing or sending files). You just have to connect bluetooth in your mac and iphone, and then start the service you want (internet sharing, for example), and the bluetooth connection stays on forever.

I have the latest bluetooth firmware.

Try it and see if it works for you...

I have exactly the same problem. I have the latest versions of iphone and mac os X. I don't know what's the problem...

If you have not done so, run software update. There is a BT firmware update for certain Macs available. I have installed it, although I did not have previous issues.

I'm having the exact same problem. I can pair my MacBook Pro and MacPro fine and transfer a file.

When I go to pair either my or my GF's phone to either mac, either it won't pair, or it pairs and immediately disconnects.

I have installed all updates and so forth, have tried restarting the devices, etc.

I tried the last posters ideas about trying a service before pairing, but it doesn't work either.

Not a matter of it staying on, that's normal. It's a matter of it connecting at all, I get errors and it won't connect.

I had the same problem. I found these:

What I did:
- Remove the Mac from the iPhone bluetooth pane (forget this device).
- Remove the phone from the bluetooth preference pane.
- Remove Bluetooth PAN from the network preference pane.
- Remove com.apple.Bluetooth.plist from /Library/Preferences/
- Reboot the Mac.
- Pair the phone through bluetoote preference pane.
- Create Bluetooth PAN in network preference pane.
- Connect the network from the bluetooth preference pane.
Now, it stays connected: posting this via tehering over bluetooth.

After upgrading to 10.6 and 10.6.1, bluetooth internet access continues to show the timer as being connected, but the connection has been lost. Since the upgrade, a connection time of more than 10-15 minutes is rare. Before Snow Leopard, hours was the norm.
