iPhone Update Failed- Phone dead

Got error message that update failed. Now my phone is totally dead. Blacked out.
I have a phone call with support tomorrow. Anyone else experience this? 3 days to an appointment at the Genius Bar.

Ideas?

Try a DFU (forced) restore:

1. Connect the phone with iTunes open.
2. Press both home and sleep/wake buttons until the Apple icon appears (ignore the red slider if it shows)
3. Then continue pressing the home button alone until iTunes sees the phone in recovery mode.
4. Follow the prompts to restore.

If this doesn't work you need to get warranty service. You didn't give your location, so I can't advise how to do that.

I had mega problems too. Try following the steps in my posting as below after creating a new user account on your computer with ADMIN priviledges also. See my posting on 20/June/2009 22:33 titled "Upgrade Error number 4 and Restore Error 1603 when going to OS 3.0 - Solved" And turn off any antivirus and firewall software too, before doing so. In ITunes, highlight your iphone icon and then click the Restore Button on the ITunes Summary tab which seems to force the iphone into an update. Dont try using the Check for update button. Good Luck...........
If i was doing my upgrade again i would first do a backup in ITunes, and then On the phone go to Setting > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings. And then restore the backup afterwards. I believe this is what Apple should be recommending
