i believe it is still possible. As long as it's a at&t sim card, it should work.. the problem with a go phone plan. Is the limited use of data your plan allows.. the iphone is constantly connected to the internet and is always transferring data. So in short it would use all your minutes really fast! You would be better off getting a plan, than spending all your money on data transferring. Although your bounded by at&t for 2 years. I hope this helps.. i had that same question when i first got my iphone and that's basically what they told me. it would be a waste of money.. Like i said hope this helps.

Depends:

1. If you don't upgrade to OS 3.0, want "pay as you go" (not "pick a plan") GoPhone, and ALREADY HAVE THAT KIND OF PLAN, yes, the original iPhone can use GoPhone;

2. If you upgrade to OS 3.0 and want "pick a plan" service, that's OK, too. The cheapest monthly rate is $55 for combined voice and data;

3. If you upgrade to OS 3.0 and want "pay as you go", you're out of luck even if that's what you had before the upgrade -- AT&T no longer offers pay as you go for iPhone. Not for voice, not for data, not for combined voice and data.

For me, upgrading to 3.0 was a BIG mistake -- I don't use anything close to $55 per month in AT&T "services" but that's the only plan they will let me have.

I said I'd prefer to cancel the service entirely and please send back the $280 credit balance in my account -- ALSO not possible!

So now I have an iPhone with no data service. I'll keep using it for voice (no internet, email, etc) until the $280 credit is gone, then bye bye iPhone and bye bye AT&T.

No disrespect, but your comment about the iPhone "using all your minutes really fast" under a limited data plan is nonsense.

Until I stupidly upgraded to 3.0 I had "pay as you go" for both voice and data; the only data charges I ever experienced were for actually accessing my email via Edge (and I'd get a notice of the charge every time!).

And the charge had nothing to do with "minutes" -- they charged 1.95¢/kb.

But all that's gone now -- no more payg for iPhone, whatsoever. ATT suks.
