Strange WiFi problem on iPhone 3G after 3.0 update

My method appears to be working and I am using wifi again on 3.0 for more than 3 days with full strenght signal like with older firmware. Seems that my trouble was caused by xGPS application which somehow blocked ip adress in iphone.

yonido, the first time, I agree they may have refurb the phone as it was sent off, but with regards to the last one, this I changed in an Apple store, so I think its a new one, though thinking about it, whats to say its a refurb too as its only in a loss cardboard packaging. Don't know what to think now! lol

It is a brand new unit.
The only reason they package them in the brown boxes is to try and save some money.
I had the same sort of replacement/swap and the Genius assured me it was brand new.

I got a replacement to the IPhone. Although my original warranty expired, it had been less than a month since the first replacement. Therefore they had me replaced with another iphone 3G for not being able to find the wifi.

Apple please tell me if it is hardware problem or software...?!

and if it is hardware problem what part of my iphone I need to change? wifi antenna or chip or what? please help me, I can't use my iphone with no WiFi...

Following tests will be appreceated by people who have a positive freezer test, detect no wifi signal, but DO have a wifi mac address in general>about:

1. Downgrade to 2.28 baseband. Do this by downloading fuzzy downgrader from cydia. i used it in the past and its quick and safe. no restart even needed. Would do it myself but my bootloader is 5.09 and u can only do it with 5.08. fuzzy shows u your version so ull know.
You can restore the bb right after. It does not affect your OS - u can still have 3.0.

2. Upgrade to 3.1 last beta. Would do it myself but i need ultrasnow and it wont work. u can do it if u have original apple & at&t.

3. Drain the battery completely for 2-3 days. So you dont even see the red bars. This causes modem wifi chip to restart. Would do it myself but i have no alternative phone.

Does any fix wifi?
This will help us understand if its software or hardware.

I don't remember if it has been said before but Apple actually acknowledged the problem (which was mine) of grayed out wifi after upgrade:

What I still don't know is that it is linked to 3.0 and thus, there's a hope in 3.1 or to something else (version of Itunes? hw?)

so I keep my 2.2.1 for now.

Oh yes, keep your 2.2.1 ! Don't update your iPhone !

I'm searching for an iPhone with 2.2.1 or lesser ... But it's hard to find one, much people have 3.0 update.

I read on some other forum about the 3.1 beta 3 and some guys said it help them for the Wifi issue. But not all of them ...

Cant help but think of the Apple guys laughing their way to the bank everyday! How come there are thousands who have upgraded and facing the issue! Most of the people I know have the same issue.

Issue Description - Wifi connects for 2 minutes then kaput.. gone. Freeze it and then we are back in business.. for another 2 mins that is. Only happened after the OS 3.0 update.

Looks like Apple decided to go the microsoft way! One advice to those geeks - If it aint broken - dont fix it!

Anybody manage to sucessfully downgrade the baseband? I know that there was a mention about it somewhere earlier. But Id like to know if anyone manage to do it with the 3G phone.

I never jailbroke or unlocked my iPhone and it happened to me. My friends with jailbroken and unlocked phones had no problem so far (one with 3G and one with 1st gen iPhone). So ultrasn0w or redsn0w are not the cause of this.

WiFi problems with 3Gs, I am so tired of being ignored. We all paid a steep price for these Apple products and we deserve an answer. The WiFi connection works some of the time but thats not good enough, I need it to work all of the time. One of the reasons I am a mac user is that my equipment out preforms Microcrap. Don't make me switch... address this situation NOW!

Did anyone try one of the tree steps of Yonido on page 35? I personally stil think one of these steps will solve the issue. I don't think I can do step 1 because my phone comes from week 51 of 2008, so I'm guessing that I have version 5.09 too.

I know that Apple can be rather disappointing in not admitting this issue, but they still provide new phones for all of you who go to the genius bar (at least that's what I've heard so far). Although I don't think that a new phone wil solve the issue, I advice everybody with warrenty and this issue to use this oppertunity to get a new phone. After al, a brand new battery lasts than an old one 😉 And we all paid the premium price for this device..
