iTunes won't update my iPhone 3.0 Beta 5

I got a legal copy of iPhone 3.0 beta 5 from a developer that I know (its version 7A312g). When I try to update my iPhone, iTunes says 'This version of the iPhone software (3.0) is the current version.'

What do I do to update my iPhone then???

I had the same problem, went onto the developer forum and m3mn0n had posted this :

+I just had a frustrating little quest google searching around for an answer to this and a way to get the latest release.+

+Beta 5 basically won't let you update normally via iTunes (says some random error message and/or will tell you it's already updated) and the GM seed isn't available for download anymore.+

+What needs to be done is putting the iPhone/iPod Touch into recovery mode and then plug it into iTunes in order to get it to download the update and restore.+

+That should do the trick.+

+A guide on restoring it + recovery mode is located here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808+

Hope this helps all

That recovery mode suggestion works great, thank you so much. I didn't know how to do this, so at the risk of insulting people's intelligence I'll outline what I learned:

1. Disconnect iPhone, but leave plugged into USB port on computer
2. Power off iPhone
3. Hold home button while plugging in iPhone to data cable
4. Wait until iPhone shows a screen asking for connection to iTunes
5. iTunes should show a dialog indicating it's seen a phone in recovery mode
6. Click the Restore button in iTunes
7. It takes a bit, but then your iPhone should be restored to factory settings
