WiFi range after upgrading 3.0

What about speed of downloading, getting weather reports-- does that seem different? That is- do you experience a difference in speed or is it just the "spedometer" (bars) is not functioning if you see what I'm trying to say.

wifi bars are strength of signal as opposed to speed, although if you have poor signal strength speed can suffer.

many wifi touch applications employ streaming video. these include accuweather and abcnews.

I'm having the EXACT same problems.

I have WifiTrak. I looked it up in the AppStore, and at the top, it said "version 2.6 has just been submitted to Apple. it will be available shortly."

That's gotta be the update that'll solve those problems.

Same Exact Problem. Wi-Fi connects for a few minutes and then stops working unless I reset the device, power down, reset network settings, etc etc...

This is lame. Wi-Fi worked perfectly before the 3.0 upgrade. Is there a way to downgrade???

It seems this problem and others with version 3 of the iPod Touch system software / operating system is more prevelant than I imagined. At this time I will HOLD OFF installing this upgrade. I'm taking a major business trip and don't want WiFi or other problems...

Is there any site from APPLE that is addressing issues of installing 3.0 over 2.2.1 i.e. upgrading and such? Are we looking at 3.1 possibly to come-out sooner than expected to address these issues?

Suffering the same problems, after eight hours of trying everything up to and including a total restore, I cracked it. I don't know why it worked, but it was an instant cure:

Try simply changing the name of the wireless network in your router settings.

I can confirm that the 3.0 software screwed up my wifi range too. I'm now back on 2.2.1 and now it works fine. Is there anywhere I can report this?

I noticed the degraded signal especially at places and corners with low signal from before. (At my house, at work) Where I once had a low signal with working wifi connection, there was no contact at all with 3.0.

I've locked out any other possability of the different wlans that I've connected to because it works fine now again with 2.2.1

They really, really should clean this up..

I did my downgrade on XP, on a computer where I dont keep my library. Not sure this matters.
Remember to Change the zip to ipsw before shift-clicking on restore in itunes.
This worked for me. IPod got reset though, had to sync it on my main pc with my library on it

2) I find the network easyly and it's connected 100%.. why should the name change have influence on the "signal quality?"

I have no idea, and it makes no sense to me either. But it's a simple enough thing to try. Maybe you haven't yet achieved the desperation level that I had reached. 😉

I too have the same issue as bimbobo, no signal or dropping issues with 2.2, now upgrade to 3.0 signal is weaker and gets dropped with 3.0

RE: tonefox I'm glad changing the name of your wireless networked helped (don't understand why) but how will you address other networks you visit? Like the coffee shop that offers free wifi, you can't expect them to change their name too?

I haven't visited any of my other wifi networks since upgrading to 3.0, Bimbobo have you experienced the problem outside your home network?

I think I will try to downgrade if I can find the old firmware in my backups, and hope for a 3.0.1 update.
