Replying does not show original message

Question

Replying does not show original message

After upgrading to Safari 4 (final release not beta), I started to notice that when replying an email the original message would not always show. I have selected all the correct settings in preferences. Does anyone have a suggestion?. As a side note, when I tested the Safari 4 beta, I had to go back to Safari 3 because some rules in Mail stopped working.

MacBook Pro 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, Mac OS X (10.5.7)

just covering the basics here...
make sure you do not have any part of the original email selected (text highlighted, etc.) when you click on 'reply'.

I have the same issue with my Mail replies in which the original message does not show up. Works fine if I forward the email...

Anyone has this fix?

I've noticed if the email MIME Content-Type: text/plain with a charset=ISO-8859-1 then the original email on a reply does not show up. Those that are experiencing this issue, is anyone seeing this pattern also? i.e. view the message via option-command-u for 'raw source' to show the charset
If charset is US-ASCII it works fine for me..

That was all quite techy for me but I had a look using command option U and although I'm experiencing the same problem it seems that both mails that are problematic and ones that reply fine (ie original text does show) both have ISO-8859-1. They all seem to say > This message is in MIME format. Since your mail reader does not understand
this format, some or all of this message may not be legible.
IS this normal?

The only emails that I've noticed the problem with are from a Mac user who uses the Mac Entourage.

User-Agent: Microsoft-Entourage/12.10.0.080409

I have emails from other users that show:

Content-type: text/plain; charset="ISO-8859-1"

and when replying or forwarding those emails, all the text from the original appear in the new email.

I only noticed this problem after upgrading from 10.5.7 to 10.5.8. I also upgraded Safari from v3.x to v4.0.3. I noticed in another thread someone mentioned that they had problems with some rules in Mail when running Safari v4 beta and they went back to v3 and the problems went away.
