IMAP sync - only Inbox

I have a few accounts I'd like to setup. After setting up just one, I notice Mail likes to sync all folders, including my spam folder with 10k+ messages. I'm just never looking to download those.

Is there any way to have Mail only sync the inbox, and no other folders unless otherwise requested?

Mac OS X (10.5.7)

generally no but there are a few exceptions. you can do it for Junk and Trash folders if you want. that's done in mail preferences->accounts->mailbox behavior.

Thanks, but my only Junk options are:
- Store junk messages on the server
- Delete junk messages when...

The issue here is I'm not getting junk in my inbox, it's all handled server-side. I don't want it to ever d/l or sync from (not to) the Junk folder.

AFAIK, that's not possible. gmail allows this but that's done serverside. maybe some other email providers offer this feature too but I haven't heard about it.
