Unfortunately some liquid (OK, Mountain Dew—don't ask) got behind or inside my LCD. It now has some very bright regions where the liquid is, and an overall dimness in other parts. My sense is that the liquid is between the LCD panel and the backlight lens, and not in the LCD panel itself. Can the two be disassembled separately and the liquid cleaned out? Or do I need the whole panel to be replaced? Any one successfully fixed this?

Well, as it turned out the liquid slowly evaporated over 3 or 4 days. Now the screen looks like new again, except for a small region where it's slightly brighter. Not bad, considering how it looked at first.

    Maybe all the caffeine helped!

Keep an eye on it anyway. If some of the goo worked into the hinge area where the cables run, there could be some "down the road" issues.

Historically, the correlation between notebook computer damage and beverage consumption is almost as high as the correlation between computer damage and cat ownership!
