Copied text will not paste

Copied text will not paste

I can apparently both copy and cut text, but when I try to paste it into a text box, I can get the paste button, but when I press paste, it highlights briefly but does not paste the copied or cut text. It's like my iPhone's clipboard will not hold the text or something.

I have cleared the iPhone's Sarfari Cache, Cookies and History and hard rebooted the iPhone by holding the home and power buttons. My issue is still not solved.

Anyone else having either a similar problem or, preferably, a resolution to my issue?

iPhone 3G, iPhone OS 3.0

I'm doing it exactly as they specify. The only difference was in their pics they showed the notepad, where I am trying to do it in Safari.

Interestingly enough though, the text I copied in Safari, I was able to paste into a note, but I still am not able to paste it into Safari, which is where it is much more beneficial to me.

No problems with that here.

1. I selected a single word from one of my Notes and pressed Copy.

2. I closed Notes and opened Safari.

3. I tapped in the search box and could Paste the word in there.

4. I blanked the address bar and could Paste the word in there too.

5. I visited a website that had a text entry box and could Paste it there.

I'm guessing that you are thinking you can paste the text in anywhere. In effect these pages are read-only and you cannot paste text willy nilly all over the place but only in places they allow it like user/pass dialogues etc.

For example if I was viewing this thread on my iPhone I could not start pasting text anywhere except in the 'Search' box at top right and the 'more options' box slightly below it. However if you clicked on a Reply button you should then be able to start pasting text quite happily.

My apologies if you already realise this point but I think it is critical to mention as there have already been a couple of other threads with users with this misconception.

I am trying to paste into a legitimate text box that I can free type text in on a website. I have even tried typing text into the textbox, copying that text and then trying to paste into that same text box, but it does not paste.

I'm not sure what to tell you in that case as it works perfectly for me. When it fails in Safari, if you open a new mail for instance and confirm it pastes there, does it then work in Safari? I have noticed that it does not empty the clipboard when you Paste so you can keep on pasting as often as you like.

I was able to paste into the search/address bar, so my only conclusion must be that it must have something to do with the way the text input box was scripted on the discussion board I'm trying to paste to in combination with how the iPhone's paste function works. It is, after all, not a mobile-designed discussion board site I was trying to paste to. As I say, I could freely type in the box and I could get the paste button, just nothing happens when I press paste. Ah well.

I hadn't thought of that but it could be website dependant. For clarity I tried the Internet Movie Database for my test. Try pasting into the search box at the top.
