My iPhone battery was never an issue until I upgraded the software to 3.0.

My phone now goes from a full charge to 20% in less than 3 hours while not in use.
I have Location Services shutoff and every other setting on my phone has remained the same.

I also notice my phone gets very hot when I do use it.

What's up with the decrease in battery life?

15" Powerbook, Mac OS X (10.5.7)

The exact same thing happened to me today. Normal use for me consumes 50% of my battery every day. My first day with OS 3.0 and at 4pm my phone was already turned off with zero battery life. I thought the phone had died.

I hope this is not going to be a daily occurrence.

I have been having the same problem with my IPhone the last few days, my battery isn't even lasting 1 day without going completely flat!!!

It's been 36 hours since I loaded OS 3.0. I can now say that with the same usage as with the earlier version 2.2.1, my iPhone 3G has very similar battery life. No complaints here.

Prior to 3.0, I was getting roughly a medium use full day out of my 3G iPhone. I've only had one day with it so far, so can't quite tell, but tomorrow is my first normal day with it. I'll re-post with my results.

...same here, after 3.0 battery seems dead. 2 charges for day.Only push activated.

Same here. poor battery life after 3.0. Bluetooth, wi-fi, 3G on.
with 2.2.1 i always used wi-fi and 3G all the time with good battery life.

I, too am having this problem. Most of the day the phone is actually in EDGE (since I work 2 floors below ground), so I don't see why I'm at 64% battery after only 7 hours and no phone calls and only light WiFi usage

I am having the same problems. The iPhone seems to take ages to charge and then gets hot, loses all its life without my even using it. Please if you have found any solution to the problem anywhere, let us know because the phone is nearly unusable now.

idk if this is the actualy cause or not, but i did have the overheating and battery drain issues.. i believe the new push notifications feature is the cause of both these problems. after my battery got to 20%, with notifications on, i turned it off and went to bed. my phone lasted another 10 hrs before giving out. this morning i just wanted to make sure, so i fully charged my phone once again and it was still full after an hr or two. i turned on notifications, my battery died to 70%ish in a 1 hr. turned off notifications, i believe my battery is still at 70%ish

I spoke to someone at AT&T and they said, EVERYONE is having network and phone issues. I turned off my options. Fetch on two accounts, only bluetooth for my ear piece with very light audio usage (You can play the ipod through a stereo headset via bluetooth), auto lock after 5 minutes, changing the brightness to auto and only using my phone on calls for no more than 15 minutes. I know its alot to do, but that how i kept my from from dying. I had about 50% usage for two hours, when it wasnt being charged. I havent charged it since i did a sync about 3 hours ago and have a full battery. The sync took only 30 minutes. It charges faster, but you have to use less on the phone.

Same issue here. Battery life isn't what it used to be. Eve with minimal use it's dies quickly. Hopefully Apple is working on a fix.
