using iDVD external firewire DVD burner

My G4 only has a CD burner. So, I am buying an external (Plextor) Firewire DVD burner.

Will iDVD recognize the external burner?

iDVD requirements indicate computer should have a Superdrive (which mine doesn't have). Will the external firewire drive work with iDVD?

Thanks.

I bought the LaCie external and it works fine with Toast to burn to a disk but I get errors when I try to burn from iDVD to the external burner. So yes it recognizes the burner but I have yet to get a successful burn from iDVD but am able to get one from Toast 6 platinum software. I am not sure what iDVD problem.

Am trying to find out here.

Are you able to save your iDVD project to a file (dmg/iso/whatever) then burn that image file to a dvd?

Previous poster thought that was the way to go...

Seems to me Apple should allow iDVD to work directly with whatever DVD burner is installed on the user's computer (internal/external).
