iPhone 3G S + Mophie Juice Pack Air problems...

I have the new iPhone 3G S and the Mophie Juice Pack Air.

When plugging my old 3G into the case, it switches on and off perfectly, charging my phone when needed to etc etc. Just as advertised.

When i plug my new 3G S in it says 'charging is not supported by this device' and gives me a lot of errors.

It is advertised on the Apple store website AND mophies website as working with the 3G S.

I am going to try a simple restore right now but i doubt thats the problem 😟

Has Apple changed the dock connector at all and is anyone else having problems with dock connecting devices?

Macbook 2.0 (Late 2008), Mac OS X (10.5.6)

I got a replacement and now it only has the not supported sign come up when it is depleted.

At the same time i got a replacement i was assured there was no build quality issues so got another one for my dad with his 3G. His made the dock connecting sound every couple of seconds so am sending it back for another replacement.

Out of 3 juice pack airs only 1 has been useable.

On another note, they definetly impact signal strength. I can sit there with low bars of 3G, slide my phone out of the case and watch the signal grow. And whilst playing drop7 on the train i ran the juice pack air dry in under an hour. Not very impressed 😟

I bought a portable usb power supply 2 months ago like this one http://www.portablepowersupplies.co.uk/usbliionbatterypack.htm to use with my iphone 3g. It worked fine but then I got a 3gs and while I didn't get the unsupported message I did get intermittant charging problems with it. Sometimes it would just work and other times I had to plug and unplug it a few times to get it to charge correctly. An email to portablepowersupplies got a response that apple had changed the charging spec slightly for the 3gs and their product no longer supports the 3gs. When pushed further they said apple had altered the charging current or voltage slightly, I forget which. Its now on ebay.

The Mophie Juice Pack Air is a piece of Junk - Do Not Buy!!!

I purchased the Air a few days ago and it does not sync to the computer (get unknown USB device error constantly). The Air does not charge properly, according to Mophie both the Air and the iPhone are supposed to charge at the same time, but only the Air charges. Also, according the the Mophie web site and documentation, the Mophie Air is supposed to use its battery first and then when depleted switch to the iPhone. This does not happen at all, you have to switch the Air off and use the iPhone battery until it is depleted, then switch the Air on and charge the iPhone at which point the Air gets very hot and the Air battery barely lasts long enough to recharge the iPhone.

I called Mophie tech support and they said the supplied USB cable must be defective, and the printed documentation was not correct, the Air will work as I described above. This is basically FRAUD, Mophie advertises the specs knowing they are incorrect. Anyone interested in joining a class action suit please contact me.

I've been using a Juicepack Air with my 3GS for a few months now with no problems, knock on wood. However..........

The Juicepack as it gets to it's depletion point loses voltage. The iPhone detects this and reads the Juicepack as not compatible. This is normal. All you need to do is charge your Juicepack.

I think it might be best to sync on a POWERED USB connection. I have noticed a few syncing problems as well but only when the Juicepack is dead and attempting to sync on an unpowered port.
