iPhone 3G S has yellowish tint

I just got my iPhone 3G S today and noticed that it has a distinctly yellowish tint to the screen. Doesn't matter what app I am using, and I've tried adjusting the brightness with no success.

Is anyone else experiencing this issue?

I have gone through three 3GS' so far for various hardware issues. My first one had a cool "white" screen, the second one was yellowish only towards the bottom (indicating a problem), and this third one is yellowish throughout the entire screen. I'm guessing if it's the whole screen, this can be fixed with a software update, but when only part of the screen is discolored, that sounds like an issue to me.

Correct. I am under the same impression. A screen that has a partial yellow bottom must have a hardware issue that needs an actual replacement. A screen that has a uniform "warm" (yellow) color, more than likely can be fixed with a firmware/software update by changing the color profile.

I posted this elsewhere a few days ago. There is a yellow problem, but there seems to be 2 issues for the same thing.

1 - Entire screen is fine, except for the bottom 1/3 that is yellow. - Hardware

2 - Entire screen is uniformly "warmer" (yellow). - Software

Most people have either a 14- or 30-day return policy from Apple or AT&T. Hopefully OS 3.1 will be out within 2 weeks and if the issue isn't resolved at that time, I'd say asking for a replacement is not a bad idea.

Keep in mind that your iPhone's are under a 1 year warranty (w/o AppleCare), so you can make a Genius Bar appt. at any time and if there is something wrong even a month from now, barring accidental damage, the iPhone is eligible for replacement.

Yes, I think I'm going to keep this one. They replaced it by putting the full amount on a gift card, in which they used to purchase the phone again. This means my 2 weeks return date and 1 years warranty starts from today. This seems to be the normal procedure over here in the UK. Unfortunately I don't have a good enough camera to capture such an image, and nothing to compare it to. I replaced my original 3G 6 times, and none was for yellow tint issues.

After living with my 3Gs for almost two weeks I have decided to keep it. The yellow tint at the bottom is really not that bad and I am looking for it when I notice it.

In general I do not notice it and if I tilt the phone a little one way or the other the display looks slightly blue.

If I show the phone to someone who does not know about this screen problem they do not notice it.

Love this phone!

To all of you hoping Apple will acknowledge and fix yellow screens. I am letting you know that they won't. They say the screen was designed that way and that each phone will have a variation of that yellow tone. I got a week 22 phone that was worse than the week 24 phone that had battery issues. I am seeing about sending this crappy week 22 one back and just getting my money back and washing my hands of Apple. I wish you all well with your phones and hope Dave got his concern addressed.

I was just at an Apples store in the UK after Carphone Warehouse told me they were the people to see about my yellow tinted screen.

Going through the the models on display: 4x week 22's with nice bright whiter LCD, one w25 and a w23 yellow as mine.

They told be I'd have to get a refurbed unit - I said I didn't care where it came from as long as it wasn't yellow tinted. They had no 32's in stock and no genius' free so I now have appointment for Monday.

One thing which was useful was to tilt mine and other good unit. My week 23 unit has much narrower angle of view and goes yellow and darker way before the w22 comparison. The sales assistant had to agree that this was very obvious.

I'll post what happens on Monday.

I received a replacement iPhone the other day with the same problem. The person I was working with at Apple tech support asked me to go to the Apple store to show the phone to a mac genius. I set up an appointment for the next day and met with a rep who had an iPhone himself to compare screens. I turned on the free Flashlight app while he downloaded it to his iPhone and showed him the difference between my screen and his "normal" iPhone screen. He took my iPhone in the back and replaced the screen. I have to imagine he checked the screen to make sure the tint issue was resolved prior to bringing it back to me.

** This solved the problem **

I would say to anyone out there with the issue of 1/3 of the screen being obviously brownish/tinted to bring your phone to the Apple store and ask them to replace just the screen and not the entire unit. That way you can check it in the store before you leave. The difference between my old screen and the new one is truly amazing. It is brighter and completely devoid of the yellow tint issue. Please note the screen is supposed to have a bit of a warm tint to it but not as everyone has described and what I personally experienced. I have to compliment Apple tech support they really worked with me to get this resolved.
