iPhone 3G S has yellowish tint

I just got my iPhone 3G S today and noticed that it has a distinctly yellowish tint to the screen. Doesn't matter what app I am using, and I've tried adjusting the brightness with no success.

Is anyone else experiencing this issue?

Hey

Yes I can confirm the one I have with the good screen does change colour when tipped but normal!

If you stare at it head on with a full black full bright screen it will be dark grey

tip it left side away it turns yellow grey.

tip it right side away blue grey tone.

Most TN screens are like this pva screens are uniform no matter how there tipped hence more expensive but apple chose TN!!!

What you will get with a faulty screen is the yellow tint you see when tipped left side away wont disappear when you bring the phone head on and will make the display look washed and hazy!

I think we need to do more than talk about this obvious problem. I have looked alot into before posting and have compared many phones all iphone 3GS to 3GS. If your not getting the same colors as whats on the dislay model its an obvious defect. It shouldnt be left up to luck that you get a phone with the color screen you like. If apple met to make the screens yellow they all would have the same tint not just some. I have also noticed and i do invite you to look at this youself that more white 3GS have the yellow screens than the black ones most of the black display models have the blue tint to them and all the white ones had a yellow tint just to different degrees. I think that apple needs to address the problem because with these phones selling for 700$ on ebay that is unacceptable.

It took me 3 iPhone 3G S' to finally get one with a decent screen.

1) 32GB Black Week 36 - Very Yellow Screen
2) 32GB Black Week 36 - Horrible Contrast. Blacks were gray, colors very washed out. The worst screen i've ever seen on any iPhone.
3) 16GB Black Week 36 - Downgraded to a 16GB because they were out of 32's. Good screen, slightly yellow compared to my 3G but still much better than the first phone.

I think it is sad that it took 2 exchanges to get a good screen. Not all my songs fit on the 16GB but i'm tired of exchanging phones. The local Apple stores weren't too happy about having to exchange the phones either. I've been a long time fan of Apple products, i hope they fix this issue....

just curious... where is the message from pradeep83 gone that he posted at Sep 14, 2009 1:26 AM about his bad experience with the Apple Store @Carlsbad? Has anyone else read it?

I read it in full, and have a full copy of it that was sent to me via e-mail prior to it being removed by the censors (I keep auto e-mail updates for this thread on). I don't know what in Pradeep's factual, personal experience post was found to be "out of line" by the censors - it seemed fine to me.

I can't say that it was removed because it was too scathing about Apple as I have read others that were not removed that were more critical of Apple. Perhaps Apple is tightening its grip trying to hide such factual stories about when one of their employees go really bad (the manager at the Carlsbad store he complained about).

I'd be willing to repost what I received if anyone wants, but it may just be deleted again for whatever as yet unknown reason(s). Sad when something like this happens to hide the truth to satisfy the drones of Fanboys that don't want to hear the reality of their beloved "can never do anything wrong" company. And I can sure say this - if I was Pradeep, and had this happen to me, and then had my post deleted by Apple after posting my horror experience in order to vent some frustration, I'd be changing my tune about what I recommend to others and what I choose to purchase next time around...

Hi all 🙂

I upgraded to an iPhone 3GS 32GB Black from an iPhone 3G 16GB Black when my tiled kitchen floor viciously attacked it and smashed the screen. (Or maybe I dropped it! 😉

Received the 3GS today and the screen is also totally washed out. I've examined it under different settings and compared it to my fully functional 3G (smashed in top corner only). It's not as crisp, the colours are nowhere near as deep and they have a much more yellowy twang to them. Whites are pale yellow.

I've compared both handset screens with the same brightness settings, let various other people see, and everyone has agreed the 3G screen is better.

Therefore I'm going to go to O2 for a replacement. I shouldn't have to accept a lesser quality screen when the TCO is over £860 minimum over 18 months, excluding insurance. Not a chance in ****. I'll cancel the contract before I accept this!

Serial number decoded advises that it was produced Week 29 of 2009 in Factory 88.

I haven't seen many comments about the black level on the screen (maybe I haven't looked hard enough).
I changed my dead 32GB white 3GS yesterday at the Apple Store and said to the guy "I thought I had a good one here and wouldn't like to get one with a yellow tint".
Sure enough, I notice that I have to hold he screen pointing slightly left of straight on to get a neutral colour. It's not bad, but different to my last one.
More noticeable though, is that the black background isn't as black any more. Why can't the background just be black?
At night, I sometime use NightTime Plus as an alarm clok, with the iPhone brightness down to zero and the clock brightness down o about halfway...the black background shines out in the bedroom like a searchlight!
I'd have thought that lowering the brightness actually lowers the screen lighting, not just the colour brightness?

Well, today I had to replace my iPhone 3GS black 32GB because the chrome was opening a clear defect. I received a refurbished 32Gb iPhone from the "genius ones" out of a white box and I must say, I love the screen of the refurbished iphone. This refurbished iPhone serial number was made in factory 5K(China) with group week 32. I noticed the difference right away, since I had my previous iPhone 32gb since July 2009. The screen was blue-ish with deeper colors and darker blacks. I know now what is this Yellowish tint complaint. The deeper colors made the outlining of safari pages and apps pop out like 3D. Albeit its a refurbished iPhone 3GS, even the speaker is louder than my previous so called brand-new-out-the-box iPhone 3GS. Im loving my new refurbished iPhone; I think you guys have a better chance of getting a better screen with a refurbished iPhone because of its close scrutiny process.

It's the lack of deep black I miss since I swapped my 32GB White 3GS.
Especially noticeable when I use NightTime Plus as a bedside clock at night.

What I expected wa a deep, dark black with the digits he only thing I could see. What I get is the black background actually lighting up the room, despite having the iPhone brightness set to zero and the app brightness set to half way.

Might swap it again but not sure.

Picked up a new one today. My old 3G ran outta gas... Was pretty excited about the new one till i noticed the screen issue too. In the setting menu it definitely looks yellowish. 3G on the left, 3gs on the right. In the rest of the pics its not as noticeable. In the espn.com pic, the image of the guy looks pretty dark in some areas on the 3G iphone(left). 3gs (right) looks like it had more detail in the picture, especially around his eyes and definitely looks brighter. In the 2 wallpaper setup pics, the frog pics looks brighter on 3gs (right) but 3g (left) has more contrast it. In the flower pic, they both look good, but the 3g (left) looks like it had more color range especially at the bottom of the flower where it show a deeper orange and red. Not sure if I'll try to take it back or not, kinda of a pain to have to make an appointment to get this looked at and i just bought it today, so maybe I'll marinade on it for a week or so. Anyone else have any comments about the pics i posted?

Man what a disappointment these screens are, every single one is different by a long way, I got one about 2 weeks ago and that had a yellow tint at the bottom of the screen, I went to change it today and as they can't activate in store I just decided to risk it and now I have a really bad one that has washed out colours and a really bad yellow tint all over so I've swapped for a worst one.

I've seen plenty like this and only 2 that have perfect screens one is my firends that I compared mine today and another one in an apple store.

It's a joke to be honest and now I'm going to have to swap again and take my chances once more, did Apple skimp on the screens?
