I just got my iPhone 3G S today and noticed that it has a distinctly yellowish tint to the screen. Doesn't matter what app I am using, and I've tried adjusting the brightness with no success.
Well - my yellow 3GS with a build date of 23 went back to AT&T today. I picked up 2 brand spanking new 3GS 32's today at Best Buy. Apple had none and they had no idea when new ones were coming.
Both the new phones have the yellow ting problem. Mine also has a lovely dead pixel on the screen as well. I will be holding off until Apple sorts this out and I start hearing/seeing that replacement phones are the correct color temperature.
Both the new phones I have here - the screen is whiter at the top and yellower at the bottom. I don't know what it is but it's annoying as all get out. Very frustrating too.
Can't swap at the Apple store because they do not have warranty stock in yet since the phones are so new.
I just got off the phone with iPhone technical support. I was transfered to a product specialist and she told me that the 3G S display should look exactly like the iPhone 3G. She told me that the yellow tint of the 3G S is due to a defective iphone. She was extremely nice and gave me an appointment with the lead genius at my nearest apple store this afternoon so that I can get mine replaced. So don't think that the yellow tint was done intentionally by apple to make the colors warmer or something, definitely contact apple and get yours replaced. I'll come back and post again once I return from the apple store.
The problem is I have had two replacements today at two different stores and "all" of the units were the same, so obviously we have to wait till we have access to "normal ones"...I give it a month or two...
The only potential problem with waiting is you might get a unit with refurbished insides. I guess who cares as long as it has the good screen. I just wish Apple could have gotten it right on launch day...impossible?
I am with you there. Apple replaces everything except the board itself from what they told me. I bought a 3G new and it had a gasket coming loose issue. Took it to the Apple store and they swapped it with a new one. I did not know at the time it was a refurb. However, it looked and worked new so I could care less. 😀
Looks like the yellow issue is going to be around for a while until the stock is depleted. ***** but it will be a month or so.
I'm having the same yellow tint problem reported on this thread. Looks like my 3GS is from the week 23 batch.
I had a Genius appt today, hoping that they would be willing to correct the problem only to be told that the yellowing issue is "within specifications" even though a side-by-side comparison with
his 3GS clearly showed that my screen was significantly yellower than his. The Genius refused to give me a replacement nor did he offer any solutions to fix the issue.
Hopefully, enough people are experiencing this problem that it can/will be addressed soon. The yellow-green tint is driving me nuts...
Almost contemplating going back to my original iPhone.
After what the manager pulled yesterday, he called and talked to me and told me to make an appointment at the genius bar. I have one for tomorrow. I also talked with a product specialist who said that after my appointment, if I was still not happy with the phone to call and ask to speak with him and he would do something for me. He said it was not supposed to be a yellow screen. It was supposed to be better and look better than the 1st generation and the 3G. Interesting to note. I will see how things go tomorrow. He also said when comparing phone to phone, to reset both phones in general settings to get an equal comparison. That was good to know.
Don't try to convince yourself that you can live with the yellow screen, because every time you will look at the screen it will remind you about settling for a phone that the Apple store guys do not want for themselves (in my case the store manager had a great white screen and did not want to trade his for a brand new one that I offered to buy him).
I and my wife decided to stay with our 3G iPhones and wait to find new 3GS phones with good screens. No need to rush and then regret it.
Good luck and please keep us posted about your phone.
To tell you the Truth I didn't notice the Yellowish tint on my phone till I read this thread and compaired my Edge and my 3GS. When I saw the tintish yellow I was suprised then I got a little angry. Im holding back to see "IF" Apple will address the issue or if we can get a replacment. Because now that every Time I look at my phone I can see it and it does bother me alittle.
Lets be patient and gave Apple sometime to provide an update...its only be 4 days since launch! Apple just made the screen more warmer than the previous iPhone 3G, most likely to save more battery life. Just keep submitting negative feedback on the matter and eventually they will give in and update the screen color setup back to blue!
Ruddy have you even been reading this thread? This is not a software issue, this is a defective screen issue, AS ADMITTED BY APPLE. Also there is no need to wait and see, many have gotten replacements already.
If your phone has even a hint of yellow, get it replaced!
Honestly, not all, it's too long LOL...
But the reason I say give Apple some time is because this is not the first time that the iPhone has suffered from this yellowish screen. And soon enough Apple has fixed the issue with updates. Mine is slightly yellow compare to my old iPhone 3G but decent enough.
I do agree though, if it's that bad, get it replace...
Not that I know of...the only way to tell the difference is, either by, comparing the iPhone 3GS with an actual iPhone 3G or just by stopping by an AT&T or Apple store and comparing them there. There isn't a website to compare because iPhone screen is different from every different computer out there.
I found this link. I figure if it passes these tests I'm happy with my iPhone.
http://www.appleservedup.com/ I really don't see a problem with the very slight yellow tint to the screen. I didn't notice it till I read this thread. Or mabey my phone isn't as bad like some others. The texts and pics are sharp, vibrant and clear.
