Hello all, I have a Logitech LX-7 optical mouse (5 buttons + scroll wheel) which works well for the most part. The problem that I'm having is that the cursor behaves erratically (skips all over and moves in a jerky fashion) when the computer is running even mildly processor intensive tasks (40% or more will do it). At the same time the trackpad, which I've never gotten to like using, works perfectly fine. I do have all the latest drivers and software available for the mouse. Does anyone have any suggestions about what to do?
Well perhaps, yeah, get a better mouse...well in that case then, what multi-function mouse (mice?) are people using that works well with Mac OS?
Any suggestions or feedback is greatly appreciated.
Thanks very much,
First, uninstall the Logitech Control Center software and driver. Download SteerMouse ($20) from
VersionTracker or
MacUpdate and use it. It has controls for fine tuning cursor behavior.
If the mouse is wireless bear in mind that the use of microwave ovens and some portable phones will interfere with the mouse causing jerky cursor behavior (and loss of wireless service as well.)
To answer your other question the two best mice are either Logitech's VX Revolution and MX Revolution. The former is a notebook model while the latter is a desktop model. Neither use BlueTooth.
Thank you for the advice. I believe that the problem is software related rather than the actual mouse because it occurs only when CPU load is high. I have a fresh battery and the mouse is clean etc.
I'll take a look at Steermouse although I was hoping that I could just make what I have work and not have to spend more money. Thanks for the tips!
I'm having the same problem with a USB wireless Targus mouse. There is definitely a connection with processor load: when Firefox is loading a page with lots of graphics/pictures or often when videos are playing, the cursor lags so much that the mouse becomes unusable. It doesn't happen with all videos. There don't seem to be many accounts of similar issues that I can find online... I guess most Mac users purchase the Apple mouse.
I have had very good luck using both a Logitech LX7 and LX8 mice with Steer Mouse. My MX Revolution has jumpy cursor behavior with Steer Mouse. No matter how much I try to adjust the cursor behavior, it still jumps. So I am back to my trusty LX8. Steer Mouse is much better than Logitech software.
Regarding the problems with your mouse while Firefox is loading a page: Check this link out. It's actually a fix for stuttering streaming video in Firefox, but I think it has solved my issue that had had with my mouse not registering clicks and scrolls while Firefox was loading a new tab. Hope it helps!
