Problem using the Import SIM Contacts

I just received the new IPhone 3GS today it has O.S 3.0. My current phone is an LG with AT&T. I made sure that my old contacts on the LG are all stored in the old SIM card. I inserted the old SIM card into the IPhone. And pressed Import SIM Contacts button. A message appear on the IPhone saying that it was importing. After about 60 seconds, it stopped. I went to check my contacts and it was empty. I tried several times and failed.

The 2nd way I tried doing that is by copying all my contacts from the old SIM to my LG phone and then inserted the new SIM into the LG coppied all contacts into the new SIM, then inserting the new SIM into the IPhone and pressed Import SIM Contacts. I got the same results. No contacts imported.

Is this a bug? or Am I doing something wrong. Help me here please.

If it makes you feel any better, I am having the exact same problem and I can't find any help either. What's really odd is that I just got 2 identical iPhones (one for my wife), I have very simply imported the contacts for my iPhone from my old Nokia on the SIM card using the "import SIM contacts" in the iPhone. It work perfectly. When I tried to do the same thing for my wife's phone which is an identical Nokia to mine, it behaves exactly as you describe: acts as if it will do it for about 5 seconds, then disappears, importing nothing. I've tried everything I know, but no dice. I'm about ready to go back to the ATT store and tell them to take it back.
