3.0 Encrypted Backup Problem

Hello all,

Yesterday, I decided to check the box and encrypt my backups. Well, after about 90 minutes of waiting and the backup not even half complete I stopped the backup and finished syncing.
Well now I went to uncheck the encryption box and I got prompted for my password, which did not work.
I'm about 95% sure I remember the password and typed it properly, but all I get is an error that the password is incorrect.
Is there a method to restore my iPhone 3G that would reset the backup password, either doing a full restore, or deleting the encrypted backup?
I can't find any Apple support articles about this. Is it possible the stopping the encrypted backup prematurely could have corrupted things?
Any help on figuring out a way to reset the encryption password would be greatly appreciated.

PROBLEM SOLVED:

I had problems unencrypting my iPhone backup, and repeatedly getting errors about my password being invalid.
Well, I finally got a full backup completed, after following some tips and removing apps that have a lot of data to backup, like AP Mobile and others.
After the backup completed, I was able to unlock the backup without a problem. It looks like it's just a case of a bad error message in iTunes, with the decryption failing because the backup was incomplete.

Hope this helps someone else.

Hi,

I enable "Encrypt iPhone backup" the other day, and after that it took long time to perform the backup. I decided to turn it off, however the tick box is mask out and I cannot disable "Encrypt iPhone backup" now, just wonder your iTunes still allow you to untick the box. Are you using iTunes on Mac or Windows ?

Thanks for your help.

Same issue here except now the box to encrypt is not even checked anymore. If I check it off, it prompts me for a new password. Nothing works though. Here is the console message.

Thu Jul 9 12:29:12 unknown /usr/libexec/BackupAgent[774] <Error>: 774:970457784|BackupAgent.m:_handlePasswordChange| ERROR: A password exists in the keychain, but we were not given an old password. Refusing to change the password

I tried to delete the old backups and run a backup without the box checked but it still encrypts them.
