3.0 Upgrade WIFI problem

My IPOD Touch 2G worked fine until 3.0 upgrade this morning. Now WIFI does not work - or is incredibly slow - hard to tell which. I have reset the network settings and restored IPOD but still doesn't work. We have another IPOD in the house on OS-2 and it still works as do other devices.

After some farting around and a little nose-picking I figured out the the 3.0 update insinuated some changes to the Home button without my express written consent. I no longer feel insane. Well, at least in regards to this issue anyway. I was able to adjust the action of the Home button under Settings-General-Home and then choosing the "iPod" option under "Double clicking...... " ya' live. learn, & get old.

Thinking about the fact that not only the WiFi works like &%$# but also the whole iPod and OS3 run slower than before, I wondered if the CPU and the RAM memory are too old for it. Think about the release of the new iPhone 3GS which is said to be 50% faster by overclocking the CPU: maybe OS 3 was only for it, but Apple decided to give it a go on our old iPods,to make a bit more money. Maybe the solution to this problem will be the release of iPod Touch 2GS or something like that 😟
I sent a complain about this at iTunes Store Support. They say that I will receive an answer within 24 hours so...almost 14 hours to go.

I had a decrease also from 3 bars to one bar on my iTouch WiFi signal strength post OS 3.0 update. I have a router that is "N" but also can broadcast in "G" and "B". I use wireless for a Dell laptop that still has an older "G" card, when I changed my router settings from mixed "G", "B", and "N" to "G" and "B" only suddenly I have 3 bars of speedy signal strength again anywhere in my house on the iTouch. So...I thing the new OS 3.0 gets jammed up when it detects a mixed "G" and "N" signal, which many Hotspots also have. So this is a temporary fix for your home network until OS 3.1 comes out.

I also am one of the many folks waiting for the 2.6 (OS3.0 compatible) update for WiFITracker App. One of the few apps that allows you to connect directly at a better signal strength to networks the built in App can't detect.

I had a same problem with my iPod touch 2G after upgrading to OS3.0. Every time I tried several times both at home and at my office I failed.
I also restore the all the OS and apps but also I failed again.
At the last time, I tried erase password on my Access Point, finally the problem is solved and it seems OK even after resetting the password as usual.
Why don't you try this solution which erase and reset up password on your AP.

I just want to share this.

I also had the WiFi problem after the 3.0 upgrade to my Touch. I kept losing connection, but it reconnected by itself again.
I changed the "Radio Band" setting in my router from "Standard" to "Auto". I have not lost the WiFi connection so far, for 15-20 minutes. It may be the FIX for my Touch.

I downloaded the new software for my ipod touch and and have had consistent problems with my ipod.
The Apps Store, Safari and email all playing up. The connection bars are good, but connecting to the above apps doesn't always work. Its saying that its timed out. I have to switch off the ipod and turn it on again. Sometimes it works, sometimes it don't.
My imac works fine using wifi, so I know its not my router.

I have exactly the same problem.

I keep getting a 169.xxx.xxxx address which is a self assigned address.

No problems prior to upgrading and no problems with any other wireless equipment.

I have tried all the solutions put forward by other people - renamind wireless network - resetting network settings and so on.

What type of pre testing are Apple doing if a problem as basic as wireless connectivity is not showing up prior to release? And as someone as pointed out we are paying for this!

I downgraded to 2.21 and guess what...now I am having the same connection problems that I had with 3. I connected fine before this upgrade and now the upgrade seems to have affected something so that now 2.21 gives me the same poor wifi that I was getting with 3. So, I am reinstalling ver 3 and will play around with it and my router and if that doesn't work I guess I will wait for an Apple fix.
