iPhone 3Gs - Echoing for the person on the other end

I just got the iPhone 3gs and now two people have complained that they hear themselves echoing when they talk to me. Anyone else have this problem? Also, my battery is almost half dead before 11am and that's with minimal usage.

Ugh, am I going to have to return it?

Scott,

If your callers are the ones hearing the echoing, the problem could quite possibly be on their end.

I thought it would be their problem too, but it's just too much of a coincidence that two different people are making the same complaint.

I just think you should collect a wider sample of data.

could be network problems or fluctuations. It could be the other persons end. Does it happen when someone rings you? or when you ring them?

I've had echoing a few times with my 2G, but with no particular pattern.

Nothing like that with my 3GS, but not that many calls so far.

people tend to get echos when they are wearing blutooth headsets..find out if thats whats going on

try turning your ear piece (on the phone) speaker volume down & ask them if they still hear it. I've found with loud talkers or loud cell phone conversations the other persons voice sound waves get picked up by the mic, lowering the volume always fixes it.

The echo is a general problem with GSM phones -- you get them with all phones on ATT and T-mobile, or any GSM phones overseas -- it won't occur on every call, and sometimes you won't get it for months, and then you'll get three in a row. Usually a reset of the phone resolves it for awhile for your next few calls...

The person hearing the echo, by the way, is the one having the GSM feedback issue, If you don't hear it, it's not your phone, it's theirs.

Everyone I call seems to have an echo on their end. Even when I called a land line. So, it must be my phone, even though everything is crystal clear on my end. This has been true with at least 2 land lines.

I just confirmed that it is somehow related to the headset and the volume settings on MY side. How the F does my volume setting make the person on the other end of my phone call hear an echo? That's just not right. Further, with the volume up on the headset, there was an echo. That occurred when I was indoors. I stepped outside and the echo for my friend went away. When I stepped back inside he claimed he was echoing again. I hope this isn't a problem for ALL 3Gs phones!!!

Lower the volume on your earpiece/headset and the echo will go away. Despite that being the fix, this shouldn't be a problem that the people we call suffer from.
