Bluetooth a2dp/avrcp

Ever since a week after the first Iphones were released (when I bought my first one), I've been waiting for Iphone to support bluetooth a2dp/avrcp.
I bought a 3G-S yesterday. I have 3 different a2dp/avrcp products I've paired it with: my Sony car stereo, a Motorola MOTOROKR S9 and a 3rd device (I forget the make/model). All three seem to play the music via a2dp fine. But I cannot get skip-to-next-track and skip-to-beginning-of-track ( |<< and >>| )to work on any of them. Play/pause works on the 2nd and 3rd device, but not on the car stereo. On the car stereo when I hit pause I hear a split-second pause and then it continues playing.
So my question is, does the Iphone 3G-S not support the avrcp protocol or is it buggy?

The iPhone 3GS' Bluetooth profile does not support forward and back, only pause and play via stereo Bluetooth. I had this issue as well, and had to dig around the apple site to find out the supported profiles. My car stereo has the capability to transfer the phonebook contacts to the stereo so you can see a name rather than a phone number; however since the iphone's profile does not support file transfer or sharing I cannot use this feature on my stereo. I hope Apple updates this soon as well as the forward/rewind Bluetooth functionality so I can keep my phone secured in my purse without having to take it out to change the song or see who is calling me while driving.

Go to this page: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3647
it lists the supported profiles. Pay close attention to the * toward the bottom. It states only pause and play are supported.

additional info:
all 3 of these devices worked fine with my Iphone 2G and an Anycom BluNa bluetooth adapter.

All 3 also support the hands-free protocol, and I've noticed on one of them that if I answer the phone, then hang up, the a2dp music will not play in the device even though the Iphone shows that it is playing music again. In order to get the music back, I have to un-pair and re-pair the device.

Same story with the Altec Lansing BackBeat 906
All features work on the A2DP side of things (Stop/Start/Vol/Mic/and Voice)
But when it comes to << and >> and track skip the device does not function.
Altec's manual states that these features need the device to support AVRCP.
I have looked through Apple's support and features, but nothing is stated in Black and white. Although it was mentioned in the keynote speech before the release of 3.0.
Does anyone know for sure if the iPhone and 3.0 support AVRCP?

I bought a Sony Xplod MEX-BT2700 a few days ago and installed it myself. Everything is setup correctly and I have no problems using the iPod or the phone thru the unit..

This unit however will not control the iPod, as I guess the AVRCP is not usable at this time.

This unit is Bluetooth, and also has a input jack to use with a mini-connector into the iPhone 3GS (which I don't use). The Bluetooth works flawlessly.

No, not for my 3GS. I haven't actually tried an adapter on it yet. I decided I could live without FF & RW for awhile while I wait for Apple to implement it (I hope). But if I hear something like, "If you want to do the amazing thing of skipping a track, you'll have to wait until the Iphone 3GS Mark II comes out!," this may very well be the last iphone I ever buy.
On my first Iphone I used a "BluNa" adapter. It was made for the first Ipod nanos but it seemed to work in the docking slot of all the Ipods I had, including my Iphone. I think there are several makers of such adapters, just make sure it supports avrcp (COMPLETE avrcp @@ 🙂 ). They PROBABLY would work with 3GS, but don't accept my word on it; haven't actually tried it yet.
