iPhone 3G S - YouTube over Wifi issue (Please help me verify this)

Hello.

This is happening on my iPhone 3G S on WiFi. It does not happen to my iPhone 3G either on Wifi or 3G.

I need to see if others are having the same issue to see if it's a bug or if my phone is defective. On YouTube (WiFi only) my iPhone 3G S will only load a minute to a minute of half of video and it quits loading. What happens is the phone will play up until that point and then suddenly it stops playing and pauses. When you look at the controls for YouTube it shows that it has played all of the downloaded data.

I tested with my old iPhone 3G on the *very same* Wifi and it does not have this issue and both are running iPhone OS 3.0. I really need somebody else with an iPhone 3G S to verify this issue for me (or tell me that it doesn't happen to them).

Here is a video that I am having trouble with so you can test yourself:

Please test with your iPhone 3G S and post here and let me know.

I believe this issue only affects those that upgraded from 2.2.1 or restored a 3G to a 3G S (if you upgraded iPhones).

I got mine working by going into settings->wifi->tapped my network->forget network

I then did a hard reset (Home+Power until it shuts the phone off) and started it back up.

At this point I reconnected to my network and YouTube over wifi and wifi in general are working much better. It still seems slower than the 3G on wifi for transfer speed but still very usable.

Edit: now my wifi connects for 3 seconds and drops for 3 and connects for 3 and drops for 3 😟

I actually called tech. support. Admittedly, I now feel kind of stupid have done so, because it is really very simple. It takes a while for the video to download. Just like it you watch a movie trailer on your computer. If you try to play it before enough of it is downloaded it will pause until about 3/4 of the clip is downloaded and automatically start and play it through. In YouTube, I selected a 2 minute video. It took a few minutes to get to the 3/4 download point then started playing automatically and played through to the end without interruption. I agree that it should be faster, but hopefully it will be improved on in future updates.

lol, that's not the issue at all. It only downloads so much of the video (even if you never touch play or pause) and stops.

The way it works is it tests your connection speed and then buffers far enough out so that it can download the entire video while it plays without interrupting playback.

I have tried dozens of times over WiFi and it plays up to about a minute to a minute and a half and just stops downloading the video at all.

If what you were saying was the reason - it would pause and continue downloading but it doesn't. Once it hits the "dead spot" it stops and to get it playing again you have to exit the video and go back to it.
