iPhone 3Gs camera not working, screen frozen gray, photos blank, any ideas?
Hi all, hope someone can assist. I am using the new iPhone 3Gs. Periodically when I attempt to use the camera, after tapping the camera key, the screen pops up with the "closed lens" screen but it is frozen there and the screen is grayed out. When I attempt to look at photos, it shows nothing at all saved in photos. The only way to enable the camera is to reset, (I was shown by another iPhone user), by holding the home key while turning the on/off key and resetting. That works, but it's not long before the camera or video is disabled again. Is there anyone who can assist with any ideas? Could it be a setting or do I have a defective phone? Thanks, any help would be appreciated!
I am also experiencing this same problem; glad to hear I am not alone. so far my only solution has been to reset my phone but it happens again after viewing more photos in my camera roll.
I have been having the same problem. Thought it might have been my backup from my old phone so I did a complete restore & set it up as a new phone this time (lost all kinds of settings, mail, SMS, photos) thought it worked but a day later it started happening again. Not sure if I should take it back to the store, or if there is a simple fix.
Count me in too, happened tonight with the shutter now frozen. I can access my photos, but can't take any shots or video. Happened after I did some editing work on a short video. And I too am a first time iphone user.
If I restore from iTunes, will I lose anything (apps, emails, etc)?
I restored my phone yesterday and it worked fine. But it is now broken again as of this morning. Apple has not acknowledged it as a problem yet but I will be calling them again this morning.
That is NOT unfreezing it for me. It returns to home page now after about thirty seconds of total freeze (worsened from last night).
And now some really strange things are adding to it, like when waking and sliding to unlock, the tab is sticking for several seconds to the right before opening home page. Nobody seems to know whether apps are saved in sync for easy load following a restore. (??)
Edit to add: when I try the hard reset, it simply prompts whether I want to shut down, so I guess yes, it does finally help to exit the frozen shutter, though as I said, it releases after about thirty seconds.
One more edit: I turned my iphone off and restarted it to find, knock on wood, that the camera's working now. Will see where it goes from here.
Apple advised restoring but setting up as a new phone. I'm not willing to do that at risk of losing all my settings and stuff in my apps. Another post said they did it only to encounter the same problem. I'm not interested in dealing with that. They need to fix this clearly backbreaking, feature crippling bug.
I am having a similar problem with my 3GS. When reset/restarted, the camera works for a while only to freeze again. Home button works to exit, but need another restart to access the camera. Quite annoying, hope that there will be a fix soon...
Well I restored to a new phone and that didn't work. I also restored again to my prior backup and that also now doesn't work. My camera is inoperable. Apple Support requested I go to the Genius Bar in the store. I won't be able to do that until Sunday so unless I figure it out, I have no further news til then. =^(
I'm having the same camera/photos problem: photos disappearing, camera shutter freezing, etc. The reset as described above seems to resolve the problem temporarily, but aftr a while it happens again. Incredibly frustrating! I'll be watching this thread for answers, as I don't feel up for a call to tech support nor a visit to the Apple store. In a way, glad to know I'm not the only one experiencing this problem.
I'm having the same problem with my 3G S. Haven't really used the camera or video app all that much as I just received my phone a few days ago. It seems this must be a software glitch, but this coupled with the overheating issue (fortunately, I haven't experienced that one yet) is quite disappointing. Hurry up, Apple, let's fix this nonsense!
i'm having the exact same problem as everyone else here.
resetting the iphone will fix the problem temporarily, but it will just crop up again a short time later.
this is clearly a bug with the 3.0 os. we'll just have to wait for 3.01 from Apple & hope that fixes it.
