May well be much quieter/non existant on yours then.

Just to check, send a text and then immediately hold the speaker, (not earpiece), to your ear. I'm exaggerating in your case to make a point, as the phone doesn't need to be held phone to my head in my case.
It's almost like you have the Sound Grenade app installed and it starts for a short while upon the sending of each text.

OK... You were right. I have it too. Sent a text and put it against my ear.

Only problem you have now is that, because you have heard it once you're forever going to hear it at twice the normal frequency and volume because you know it exists. You're going to wish you remained ignorant of it. I for one seem to be more sensitive to it now.

I'm not going to take mine to the genius bar just yet tho, think I'll wait around here and maybe post a bug report.

    Greetings,

It must not affect everyone, as our 3Gs, and two of our friends 3Gs, who are here right now, don't hear the issues mentioned here, when you do the "lock your screen" thing, or anything else.

Some speakers are affected, and crackle a little when the phone or a notebook computer connecting via WiFi. My Bose speakers don't crackle at all, and as I said I'm not hearing any noise out of the iPhones speakers with regards to what people are mentioning here.

    Good Luck - Cheers,
    M.

    It's not a crackle though. It's a high pitched whine/buzz.

My new 3G S also emits a high-frequency tone after certain actions or sounds. I first discovered when I was sitting at my desk upstairs (and the phone was downstairs in the dock -- open loft configuration) and some push notifications and text messages were coming through. I kept hearing this high pitched tone. I was looking around and putting my ear to my iMac my external hard drive and thought it was the lamp. Finally, I gave up, had no clue where the high pitched noise was coming from. The next day, I was using the new iPhone and then heard it directly from the iPhone -- I was really surprised it was the iPhone (and that I heard it all the way upstairs!) I thought I got a defective 3G S and was dreading the thought of taking it back for an exchange. But, if they are all doing that -- fine -- will wait for a SW upgrade to hopefully fix the high pitched tone.

I just tested mine (16GB Black) and you can definitely hear the high pitch noise after sending a text. What's worse, is the same noise is also present throughout the playback of any video I record. I know this is not the case with everyone's phone because I have watched several videos that other people have taken and there is no background whine.

I agree with Phil... mine is completely silent. No high frequency sound coming from the speaker as described.

High frequency sounds are generally harder to hear the older you get. So my question is this: Anyone under the age of 25 "NOT" hearing the noise when you lock your phone and stick your ear near the bottom of the phone (speaker)?

I can also hear the high-pitched noise when I am using Voice Recorder or Video Recorder. It seems to come from the left bottom speaker on the phone (when the phone is facing you)

Does anyone else hear the noise then?
