Let us know if your 3GS purchase, activation, and function are problem free

This forum is, appropriately, a repository of questions and comments from people who are having problems. It sometimes feels like everyone had (or has) one problem or another. Perhaps it would be of value for us to hear from those who have their new 3GS phone up and running problem free. Of course I understand that this forum attracts those with problems, but I also believe that many others without new phone problems are hear to read what is happening with this new product introduction.

Please leave a comment here if your purchase experience, activation, synching and use of your new 3GS has been free of major problems.

100% problem free since Friday. Took my recently purchased iPhone 3g to the store after work. The line was about a 30 minute wait when I got there at 2 pm. I'm glad I didn't skip work to wait in line at 6 am. When it was my turn for service she promply switched my 16 gig 3g for the 32 gig 3gs. They were sold out of 16 gig 3gs's. She didn't even check the box to make sure everything I returned was there or even if the phone worked. I probably could of kept the charger and cord. I took the new iPhone home, synced and activated smoothy on iTunes. All the new 3gs features work great. The compass and map is pretty accurate within a few feet. The video recorder plays clear and smoothly.

Delivered on june 19 around noon..connected to iTunes at 2 pm. At 2:01 PM, my phone was activated and working. I was upgrading from the 1st generation iPhone to this 3Gs so maybe that helped make this go so quickly. Initial activation of 1st generation iPhone took about 3 minutes in 2007 (I had ported my number from T-Mobile).

No problems here. Pre ordered on June 8th. Received the phone Friday @ 10. I had already did a backup on my original 2G iPhone. Had the new one up, activated and using it by 10:30. The only issue I had was that after the initial sync with iTunes, it did not activated straight away. Once I power cycled it though, it activated quickly.

Love it. My original iPhone even after all the updates, never lost the lagtime for contacts and other scroll windows. This was the first thing I checked and I am glad to say it scrolls as soon as the screen comes up. Speaker phone is much improved over the original and I feel I can depend on it in an office situation.

Ringtones are louder too so much that I need to lower the volume to about 1/2

While I don't care whether my phone has a camera or video (I usually carry my DSLR when I want to take pictures) the quality of the pictures from the iPhone has also improved. I never use it to take pictures I "care" about but its nice to snap a "quickie" and email it to someone. The only experience I have with a video phone was with my Treo 650...I can't see how it could do anything but improve over that!

Like others, I'm not sure the logic in the inclusion of a digital compass. I userstand about map orienting but I prefer a north static orientation.

The only other thing that I have yet to test is phone quality with my Jawbone. using it on the 2G iPhone was hit or miss. Many people told me I was garbled and when I turned off the Jawbone, the call quality improved. I think I should have returned this when I returned the 3G iPhone. I'd be interested in other's experience with Jawbone BT...

I've been trying to start purchase on line. After entering my address, I get message that NOT FOUND. My address has been in Apple's system for over dozen years. I made sure I was spelling out street.

Just for kicks, I entered the abutting zip. It worked for a little. Then made the correction. I now think it operates in AT&T data base, and that my zip is listed as not being serviced. BS, as I know visitors who receive, but does get dropped calls. It can't be that service cuts off from one zip to the next.

I did not call AT&T phone for purchase or buy on their site, as I have Apple Gift Cards, that I think I can redeem on line at Apple, or in Store. I had no intention to drive the 75 miles to nearest Apple Store.
However I may need to wait till I am near there for other reasons on July 12 or 13.

*Please! You are free to start your own thread if you have a complaint! This thread was intended for reports of positive experiences only.*

Perhaps there are not many happy persons out there; maybe problems are the norm. But please, please do not post your complaint on this thread. Yes, I know there are many angry or disappointed people. Yes, we want to hear about your problems. But this one thread among the many should be reserved for good stories only. If there are only a few with positive reports, that in itself will tell us something. I am pleased to see good reports coming in. I am sad that the very first response to my post was a long complaint.

Thank you.

Is this a problem of definition? The forum is "iPhone 3G S". My thread is only one of many here on the 3G S forum. I apologize if my wording was vague. I think there is interest in positive reports, and this thread can be a place to put them.

I didn't have any problems receiving and activating my new iPhone 3G S. I pre-ordered it online from Apple; it arrived just when Fedex said it would. At home I synced my iPhone 8GB one last time then plugged in the new one, activated it, and restored it from the backup I had of my original phone. Then entire process, including copying of music to the phone, took about 30 minutes. Activation happened in about 3 minutes.

Regards,
Michael
