Trouble printing on Brother HL-5040 w laptop, but not desktop

Hi All.

I have 2 computers

1) Desktop 17" flatscreen iMac running OS10.4.11. My printer has been hooked up to this machine and it works nicely. But it is time to get rid of it as I look at the beachball more than my work.

2) White iBook running OS10.4.11. I have been printing with this computer over a wireless connection that runs through the desktop above.

In preparation for ditching my desktop, I hooked my printer up to my laptop directly. It does not print. It just hangs on "Waiting for job to complete." Forever.

If, in the middle of this, I remove the USB cable from the laptop to the desktop, the job prints. Same job.

What I did already
1) Rebooted
2) Reinstalled the printer driver from my laptop hard drive (didn't complete)
3) Installed the brother printer driver I got from the internet. The process completed, but I still have the same problem.
4) Searched for the driver that is on my desktop, but I can't find it.

Any more ideas?

Hi Christine,

Open Printer Setup Utility on the iBook, highlight the Brother Printer that is there and delete it, then ADD a new Printer while the Brother is connected to it.

If that doesn't work, Might try these two...

Might try Printer Setup Repair 5.1...
