Subtitles - .sst file supplied

A client has provided me with subtitles generated on a PC as a .sst file, pointing to a bunch of TIFS.
Is there a program that will convert this to something that DVDSP understands?

Many thanks

That .sst file is a subtitle file intended for Sonic Scenarist (an insanely expensive and user unfriendly PC competitor to DVD-SP). It's yet one more of the many subtitle file formats that are out there. I'm not aware of any Mac based programs that will convert it, unfortunately. There are a few oddball programs for the PC do conversion from one sub format to another, but I don't think .sst is one of them.

I would be extremely fascinated if Steve's suggestion of simply renaming the file extension works though. If it does, please let me know.

It's pretty easy to use TextEdit to convert a .sst to .txt (STL) file just with 'Find & Replace' and AppleScript, FMP, Numbers or Excel

...
+SP_NUMBER START END FILE_NAME+
+0001 10:01:23:14 10:01:24:20 0001.tif+
+0002 10:01:25:16 10:01:27:18 0002.tif+
+0003 10:01:27:22 10:01:30:21 0003.tif+

Hope this helps

Hi Trai

I can't vouch 100% for what I suggested as I've never tried it but as you say your method should work too. I've never actually used the tip I gave but I was given it by Alex Asp when I had a similar problem with a sub file (which turned out to not be the format it was flagged as). As I'm sure you know Alex knows quite a bit about subtitling 🙂

Hi Steve,

Yes, I've been switching back and forth (and back again) between Scenarist Professional and DVD Studio Pro for authoring studio clients, so much the last few years, it seems like the subtitle files need to be 'reconfigured' every now and then.

So, that's why I said it "will" work, and not "should"; 🙂, as I've done it many times.

And yes, .scr will work, too - just tried it.

For sure, if you had cited Alex as the source of your recommendation, then we'd all have immediately known your suggestion would work! 🙂

Btw, great to see your continued presence on the boards all these years.

Thanks and take care,

Trai
