I changed the "name" of my ipod nano 3rd gen. and am now having issues

I have an Ipod Nano 3rd generation 8 gigabyte. Whenever I first got my Ipod, I set the "name" as My Ipod. (the name is what scrolls at the top of the screen on the right side when you select Settings or Shuffle Songs, or the name of the device when you plug it into the computer.) A few months later, I decided to change the name to Ali's Ipod. Since then, I have been having issues with my ipod, and was wondering:
1. Is changing the name my problem? My friend seemed to think so, because he said every time you change the name, it creates a "new" ipod. Is that the case?
2. How can I change the name back to the original without messing anything else up?
thanks!

Hey there,
Sometimes, special characters such as the apostrophe have been known to do this. Try changing the name again by double clicking on its name in the left hand source pane of iTunes and typing in a new name. If still no luck, I would attempt to restore the iPod. Instructions on how to do this can be found below.

Hope this helped.
