iPhone Screen showing vertical lines?

I purchased the new black 32GB iPhone 3GS and noticed there were vertical lines. They are very faint and can be seen when the screen is on a white background. I have owned all iPhone models and iPhone and iPhone 3G do not have them. So me being used to the screen, I noticed these details. I actually like the warmer look the screen has, the colors do pop out more =). I have no other problem with my 3GS but after reading other post about a high pitch tone coming from the phone after locking it, I did notice that my iPhone does make that high pitch tone.

A good example of what I could find that resembles what my screen looks like was my wallpaper, look at the top part of the apple (not the leaf)

you see those lines?

Everything else is great I would say, any ideas what I should do? could a software update fix this?
I really do not wanna get a replacement in fear of getting another messed up one, I have read people having problems with wifi. I do not wanna keep going to the apple store, and I bet they think I am crazy after all the times I have been there. I paid a lot of money so I expect great quality...

When I purchased my 3G, my home button was working fine until I got in the car. I made an appointment with the genius bar but it started the day of the appointment. I still went because i wanted to make sure it was not gonna happen again and it did. My luck with iPhones are very bad, i went through 2 first generation iPhones.

I take great care of my devices and do not let anyone handle them

I have the same problem. The lines can be seen on a white background. I just bought my 16GB 3GS yesterday and noticed it later in the evening while browsing the web. I then went to an O2 store here in the UK to compare, but could only find iphone 3G on display. However out of 4 iPhone 3g's on display only 1 had a similar problem.

This to me seems like a hardware issue. Something to do with the coating applied on the glass. Question is how many iPhone 3GS are affected by this particular problem.

The lines are so faint that one could miss them easily. However you can find them easily if you know where to look on the screen. I have noticed that increasing the brightness of the display to full does help a bit in reducing there appearance.

Let us know how the appointment with the genius went for you.

I got a replacement but I had to fight for it. The "genius" I spoke to could not see it and on top of that she was extremely rude. She said she knew more about LCD technology then I did.
