Importing DVD to iMovie

I have a bunch of home movies on a DVD. I'd like to import the DVD to iMovie, so I can edit all the video clips. Tried copying via Disk Utility, but got an input/output error message. Is there another way I can try to import the DVD?

Take a look at Cinematize 2, I've used it with iMovie 06 and iDVD 08. It has several modes of converting the data. One mode is called "lossless".

For the job you're doing you may prefer to use iMovie 06 instead of iMovie 08 (I would).

iMovie 06 and iDVD 08 is a terrific combination.

Your workflow would go something like this.

Use Cinematize 2 to create a Quicktime file from the DVD.

Important that file into iMovie 06.

From iMovie 06, share to iDVD 08 (assuming you want a DVD).

Hi

in iMovie'08 (not 09) this is fairly easy as Karsten described it.

a. Start Apple Disk Util tool - on window-top-menu click on Make a DiskImage and open it

b. Put in Your DVD and move over the Video_TS and Audio_TS folders to this new image.
(both needed even if Audio_TS is empty)

c. Close Disk Util tool and Start iMovie'08

d. It will directly identify the DiskImage as a Camera. Select Your movie and import it.

*Greatfully to Karsten Schluter*
