Profile Installation Failed The profile could not be added to the device.

I am trying to install a pretty basic Configuration Profile to an activated iPhone 3GS.

But I am getting the following (and oh so helpful error message.

Profile Installation Failed
The profile could not be added to the device.

Any ideas where to start here?

Mac Pro, iMac Alu 2.4Gh, iMac 1.83Ghz, MacBook Pro 2.33 Ghz, Mac OS X (10.5.7), iPhone 3G 3.0 PPC XServe 2x2 Ghz 10.4.11, Intel Xserve 8x2.8 Ghz

Are you installing via email or via a website?

Do you already have a profile installed on it?

I am installing via Apple's iPhone Configuration Utility 2.0 via USB cable.
No there is not a profile installed on it.

Anything else that will help troubleshoot this?

I really don't know. Can you set up a POP or IMAP email account and email the profile to the device? We deploy all of our from a web site.

I had the same issue (and have already bugged it). I was able to restore function by deleting ~/Library/Caches and com.apple.iPhoneConfigurationUtility.plist. I also deleted the files in ~/Library/MobileDevice/Devices, which correspond to the iPhones I had connected to the iPCU...

Obviously, make sure iPCU is quit before following the above steps. Good Luck!

Awesome. I'll give that a shot. The same profile installed perfectly fine on another iPhone also via USB.

I am having the same problem, but I coiuldnt find the "com.apple.iPhoneConfigurationUtility.plist" anywhere. Just like the other user my first iphone was no problem, it was the second one that popped the wind saying "*Profile Install Failed* The Profile cannot be added to the device" what do you think that might be?

Thanks David, deleting those files and relaunching the Utility worked for me.
