Battery Life after iPhone OS 3.0 upgrade

I updated to iPhone 3.0 OS on my iPhone 3G last week and I am now getting terrible battery life.

Before the upgrade, the phone would easily last a whole day at work. Yesterday I had to recharge twice. One time I noticed the phone was burning hot while not in use.

I switched off push last night and I left the fully charged handset by my bed at 11:30pm and it was completely dead by 5:30am - this has never happened before.

I have now switched off WiFi and Location Services.

Does anyone have any other suggestions other than downgrading back to 2.1? Unfortunately I'm away from home for the next 6 weeks and I don't have access to my iMac that the phone is synced to.

So:
I have hard reset and restored.
I have erased and re-set up all my emails including the mobileme push one.
I have no push apps on the iPhone.
No Location on.

If I turn the push off then three of the key advantages of the iPhone are lost:
- mobileme sync, wipe, email notification.
If I turn 3G off, then what's the point of a 3G phone?

Where's the logic of selling a phone if you have to turn most of the value-added features off to ensure the phone lasts barely a day (let alone 2-3 days for other 3G push mobiles, e.g. Blackberry)?

There's a design problem or a battery related problem - either way, Apple has a problem.

Thanks for all the replies.

I tried a lot of the things mentioned here. Turned off Wifi, Location and Push - that didn't make any difference.

Last night I deleted all my email accounts, interestingly the email accounts seemed to still be on the phone, until I did a hard reset. After the hard reset, I left the phone all night - and had virtually no battery drain.

So this morning I added back both email accounts and battery life seems to be fine now, back to it's pre OS 3.0 life.

Having the same battery issues with the 3.0 upgrade on my iPhone 3G; 5-6 hour discharge, warm/hot phone, iPhone refuses to accept a charge unless everything is off - wifi, telephone, push, bt, etc.

I should note I had similar heat issues with the 2.x FW, and the Apple Genius replaced the phone saying that the heat was due to use. My question to him at that point was two-fold; why buy a phone if I can't use the features, and will Apple address the overheating in the 3.0 FW. He would only say FW cannot address a hardware item. At that time I thought perhaps the 3GS would fix my problem, but I'm hesitant to upgrade as it seems the 3GS owners are also having overheating issues.
