iPhone Skipping Songs

Since upgrading to OS 3.0 my iPhone has randomly started to skip songs.
It's not 'Shake to Shuffle' as that's turned off, it's not 'Shuffle' as that's not on either.
At the moment it's two songs specifically, one off an album where the rest play fine, and just a single track. I don't understand it...
If I go into the playlist and tap on the song, the song comes up but jumps to the next, or the third/fourth song after that, and like above, 'Shake to Shuffle' and 'Shuffle' are both turned off...
I've tried restoring my iPhone to the factory settings, i.e. not from a backup, but it still skips the same tracks!! WHY!???
Can anyone help?!

Are you using the ear buds?

Mine did that and I realized that my year old ear buds probably had a short and with the button being able to skip to the next song, I assumed that the ear buds were sending a signal to the phone to go to the next song when the chord moved.

I bought a new pair and the problem was solved....

hope that helps

I'm having the same problem, and it's not earbud-related. I've had the problem with three different pairs of headphones.

This has only happened to me since installing iPhone OS 3.0. Three or four songs will play normally, but then the iPod will start skipping over every other song. For instance, with a 10-track album, the iPhone might play songs 1, 2, 3, 5, 7 and 9 (and then stopping without playing 10).

Am thinking it has something to do with "shake to shuffle."
I usually put the iPhone in its case and in my back pocket when out and about, ever since 3.0 I get the beeps and it switches songs, However I find if I take the case back out of my pocket and actually hold it in my hand the songs play in order. Something to do with the motion of my legs against the case?

I'm having the exact same problem as justin_pdx. I tend to shuffle playlists up in iTunes then sync them to my iPhone. With 2.* everything was working perfectly. As soon as I installed 3.0 I noticed that the first few songs on the playlist will play correctly (in order), but then the iPhone will begin (seemingly randomly) skipping tracks throughout the rest of the playlist. Since I mainly only listen to songs via playlists, I can't confirm that this is occurring when playing albums in order; I just played a Modest Mouse album and had no skipping problems. Might try to restore to factory settings, see what happens.

I have a similar problem with my iPhone 3Gs. Think this thread is related as well: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1969627&tstart=0

For me, it happens in my smart playlists -- will skip a few tracks without any logic that I can determine. They're not marked as played, and this isn't the same as skipping partway through a track (sometimes semi-corrupt MP3s cause that). Definitely don't have shuffle or shake-to-shuffle on. The tracks play fine and in sequence when playing a single album.

Similar problem here started with iPhone OS3.0 on a 3G. It is only two specific tracks that are skipped and while shuffle/shake to shuffle are turned off I have tested this on a stable location (desk) and watched the track progression.

Both tracks play within the latest version of iTunes on my PC but are tracks taken from CD to MP3 on my PC then transferred to the iPhone using iTunes.

However, and here's the kicker with my version of the problem, when the particular tracks are skipped (two sequential tracks) all other tracks are effectively muted. Even swapping to a different album the tracks progress but no sound (even with volume at maximum, volume adjusted by touchscreen and physical volume rocker button), also tested this with iPhone's own speakers and accessories (original headset and Sennheiser iPhone headset). All other iPhone sounds play correctly and vary with adjustment of volume. Only cure is to switch the phone off and back on again.

The only permanent solution (to get back access to tracks I want to listen to) I can see is to rollback to the previous OS and I'd likely do this if I was the only person having this problem.
