When inputing text in Gmail Safari slows down a lot

Hi,

When I am writing a mail in Gmail safari (v. 4.0) will sometimes slow down a lot and I have to wait for a few minutes while it catches up to what I am writing. It seems to happen randomly and after a few minutes of really slow responsiveness (say I type a letter and it appears in around a second) it starts working correctly again.

I never had this problem before and am not sure if it happens in other web pages.

Thanks!

Juan

I'm glad someone else is having this issue, as I can find hardly any google references!

Same problem here, Safari 4.0 on OSX 10.5.7 (all updates applied) is very slow when typing in Gmail.

Unfortunately I can't replicate this issue, but it occurs sometimes when I start to type a reply in Gmail - The cursor gets slower and slower and I have to wait for the typing to 'catch up' - Bug report submitted in Safari.

Anyone else?

I'm also having Gmail issues.

After I sign in, if I try to click on a new message it will say "that conversation no longer exists" and then it reverts my inbox to what it looked like a few weeks ago. I have to sign out and then back in to get my current inbox back, but it still won't let me open any of the messages.

I have only noticed this problem the past few days, in Safari 4 (Gmail works just fine for me in Firefox). Any help would be appreciated!

Is your problem restricted to gmail? I am having very similar issues writing text in Facebook via Safari 4 - both on my antiquated desktop and my much higher spec'd Mac Book Pro.

Both are wired Ethernet connections to a moderately fast DSL connection, and Activity Monitor shows massive spikes for Safari's use of the CPU - 110% was the record so far! (Mac Book has dual processors). Meanwhile I sit and contemplate the beach ball ...

So I'm trying Safari 4.02, see if that makes a difference (tho I see a couple of people said it didn't for them).

I thought I'd give an update since there are more people reporting the same issue.

Since my last post (see above) I have been using just Safari 4.0.2 (5530.19) and did NOT encounter this problem again, strangely enough. It seems to have disappeared but I do not know why. I believe the only update that I have made to the system since then was the latest EFI update, but that I think is unrelated.

Is anyone else who encountered this problem before not experiencing it anymore?

Cheers

Same problem here: iMac, 10.5.7, Safari Version 4.0.2 (5530.19), typing in gmail when composing messages starts out ok then slows dowwwwwwnnnnnnn until it's VERY frustrating to type.

This ONLY happens in Safari and ONLY with Gmail.

One temporary solution is that if you click "Save now" when you go back to typing it's normal speed again and doesn't seem to slow down after that.
